Cabbage Thoran | Cabbage Thoran Recipe

Cabbage Thoran is a dry curry made with cabbage popular mainly in Kerala. This thoran is made with chopped cabbage, coconut, and along with a coconut spice paste. This recipe is made as a side dish with rice, usually in the Kerala region and also during Onam Sadya. The recipe is easy to make and it uses everyday ingredients.

Equipment

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups Cabbage chopped very finely
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ¼ cup Water

To Grind

  • 1 cup Fresh Coconut grated
  • 1 no Dry Red Chilli
  • 1 no Green Chilli
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 4 no Shallots peeled

For Tempering

  • 2 tablespoon Coconut Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Split Urad dal
  • 1 sprig Curry leaves

Instructions
 

  • Grind the ingredients given in the list to a coarse paste and set aside.
  • Heat oil in a kadai. Add in mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves and mix well. Now add in the cabbage and toss well in the oil. Add turmeric and salt to taste and mix well. Pour ¼ cup of water and mix well, now cover this well and let it cook for 5 minutes.
  • Now add in the ground masala and bring all the cabbages over the ground masala and cook covered and cook for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, remove the lid and stir fry for few minutes. Serve with rice and any gravy.
