Chocolate idli cake is a soft, light and moist cake that is made by steaming instead of baking. It doesn’t require any oven or pressure cooker to bake, regular idli steamer pots work perfectly for this recipe. This cake is made using basic ingredients like flour, sooji, cocoa powder, sugar and oil. Serve this chocolate idli cake warm with a drizzle of chocolate sauce or enjoy it with a scoop of ice cream for a delicious treat.
Take yogurt, sugar in a bowl and whisk till creamy and sugar is melted. Now add in oil and vanilla and whisk well.
Now Add in sooji, cocoa and mix well. Set aside for 5 mins. The batter would have thickened a lot. Now add in water and mix well to a smooth batter.
Just before steaming, Add in baking soda and plain flour. mix well to form a smooth batter.
Now spoon this in a well greased idli plate and steam for 5 to 7 mins. Insert a toothpick to check whether the cake is done. Now remove from steamer and let it cool for a minutes. Use a spoon to remove the idlies from mould and serve.
