Mushroom masala also known as kalan masala is a simple and creamy mushroom curry made with whole spices, onions, mushrooms, ginger, garlic, spice powders and yogurt. This dish can be made in less than 30 minutes which makes it a perfect side dish for roti.

Ingredients

For Tempering

  • 4 tablespoon Sunflower oil
  • 3 pods Cardamom
  • 1 piece Cinnamon Stick
  • 2 no Dry Red Chillies broken into small pieces
  • 2 sprig Curry leaves

Yogurt mixture

For masala

  • 1 large Onions peeled and sliced thinly
  • 2 no Green chillies slit
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger Garlic Paste
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 250 grams Button Mushrooms sliced
  • 1 teaspoon Salt or to taste

For Garnishing

  • 3 tablespoon Coriander leaves chopped finely

Instructions
 

  • Mix yogurt with chilli powder, coriander powder and garam masala powder in a bowl and mix well.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add in cardamom, cinnamon, dry red chillies and curry leaves and let them sizzle for a minute.
  • Add in sliced onions and cook till translucent. Add in green chillies, turmeric powder, ginger garlic paste and stir for couple of minutes until aromatic.
  • Now add in mushrooms and salt. Mix well with the onions. Cook this for 3 minutes until mushrooms is wilted slightly.
  • Now reduce the heat to low and add in the yogurt mixture and mix well with mushrooms.
  • Now cover the pan with lid and cook for 8 to 10 minutes on medium heat until oil separates from it.
  • Now add in coriander leaves and mix well. Serve hot with roti.
