Green Bean Casserole Recipe (Homemade Green Bean Casserole)
If you think green beans are boring like me, this green beans casserole might just change your mind, just like it did for me. Fresh, tender green beans are coated in a creamy homemade sauce, topped with crispy breadcrumbs, butter and cheese and baked until golden and bubbly.
Heat water in a saucepan, add salt and bring it to a boil. Add green beans in and blanch it for 2 mins. Now strain the beans and set aside.
Now make the sauce. Heat butter in a pan, add onions and saute for 2 minutes. Add in flour and mix well. Stir fry the flour for 2 minutes until raw smell leaves from it.
Now pour in milk and cream cheese and stir to mix till there is no lumps. Cook this for 3 to 5 minutes until the sauce thickens. Season with salt, sugar, pepper and mix well.
Now add in the blanched beans and toss well in the sauce. Let the beans gets coated in the sauce.
Spoon this into the baking pan and spread evenly. Now sprinkle top with breadcrumbs, cheese and add cubes of butter on top.
Place this into the preheated oven.Bake this for 25 to 30 mins until golden crispy and bubbly.
Remove the pan from oven and let it cool for 5 minutes before serving. Serve hot.
