    Air Fryer Fried Chicken Recipe

    Air Fryer Fried Chicken is a healthy alternative to deep fried chicken, but it is really hard to notice the difference. The fried chicken cooked in an air fryer turns out super crispy and juicy which makes it a perfect weeknight meal.

    Ever since I posted air fried chicken picture on Instagram, I have been getting so many messages asking for the recipe. I have shared an air fryer chicken recipe before but this version is an updated version.

    This recipe is close the real deal. It is hard to notice the difference. My kids who are a huge fan of fried chicken, could never find out this is baked. It was perfection.

    About Air Fryer Fried Chicken

    Air fryer is getting so popular from the past few years. An air fryer is a small countertop convection oven designed to imitate deep frying without frying in oil. Since the appliance is small and compact, the heat circulates at high speed which creates crispy texture fast.

    There are many fried recipes which you can easily make in an air fryer without adding tons of oil. I mainly use them to make my fried chicken and fried fish.

    Air-Frying is healthier than deep frying in several ways. They are lower in fat, calories which makes them ideal for weight watchers.

    I used chicken breast for my fried chicken. Cooking chicken breasts in the fryer is so easy as cooking any other pieces, except that chicken breast can dry out faster. But no worries, because this recipe works wonder.

    This recipe is so easy and basic. You need to prepare the chicken breast, cut them in the middle and halve them. Marinate with basic spices and salt. To prevent chicken from drying out, I used egg, cornstarch. Coat the chicken in panko and bake. Thats it.

    Ingredients

    • Chicken - I used boneless chicken breast, which is fast to cook and high in protein. You can use any cuts as you like. The cooking time alone will vary.
    • Spices - This recipe is very forgiving, you can flavour it with your favorite seasonings. I used chicken seasoning, garlic powder, chilli powder, pepper powder, 7 spice mix and cumin powder.
    • Cornstarch - this creates a thin layer around your chicken sealing it and prevent chicken from getting dry.
    • Oil - olive oil is added in chicken with marination and also drizzled over chicken before air frying.
    • Panko - panko creates super crispy almost crunchy exterior over chicken.

    Step by Step Pictures

    1)I am using boneless chicken breast. I like to cut each chicken breast into 4 pieces. You have to slit the chicken in the middle to butterfly them. Cut each half into 2 pieces. This makes the chicken crispy and also cooks them faster.

    Marination

    2)Preheat air fryer to 200 degree C. Take the chicken breast pieces in a bowl.

    3)I used salt, chicken seasoning, garlic powder, chilli powder, pepper powder, 7 spice mix and cumin powder. Add in lemon juice, oil and egg.

    4)Add in some cornstarch into the chicken.

    5)Mix this really well into the chicken.

    Crusting

    6)I used panko breadcrumbs for outer coating. It makes the coating super crispy.

    7)Press the chicken both sides in breadcrumbs.

    8)Chicken is coated well with breadcrumbs. Now place this in fridge for 10 minutes.

    Air Frying

    9)Line air fryer with parchment paper. Drizzle parchment paper with some oil. Place chicken on top of the paper. Drizzle little oil on top of the chicken. Place it into the air fryer, air fry at 200 degree C for 12 to 15 minutes.

    10)Remove them at 10 minute mark, flip over and cook on other side too. Super crispy fried chicken is ready.

    Equipment

    Ingredients
      

    • 2 large Boneless Chicken Breast

    For Marination

    • 1 teaspoon Red Chilli powder or Paprika
    • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper Powder
    • 1 teaspoon Cumin Powder
    • 1 tspo 7 Spice Powder optional
    • 1 teaspoon Chicken Seasoning Powder optional
    • 2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
    • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
    • 2 tablespoon Olive Oil
    • 1 large Egg
    • 2 tablespoon Cornstarch

    For Coating & Cooking

    • 1 cup Panko Breadcrumbs
    • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil

    Instructions
     

    • Preheat air fryer at 200 degree C for 10 minutes.
    • While air fryer is preheating, prepare chicken breast. Take boneless chicken breast, slit them in the middle to butterfly chicken breast. This makes the chicken breast thin which cooks more evenly. I cut each chicken breast in half, but you can leave them whole too.
    • Take the cut chicken breasts in a bowl. Add in all marination ingredients and mix well.
    • Now take panko breadcrumbs in another bowl. Take each chicken and press with panko. Coat on both sides really well. Set aside, proceed with remaining chicken.
    • Now remove the air fryer basket. Place a sheet of parchment paper. Drizzle little oil in the base, place the chicken in the basket. Drizzle little oil over the chicken. Place the basket into the air fryer. Bake for 15 minutes. Around 8 to 10 minute mark, remove the air fryer basket, flip the chicken and bake again.
    • The chicken should be crispy and golden. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
