    Paneer Cheese Balls Recipe

Delicious and healthy crispy paneer cheese balls recipe made two ways. I have showed the recipe for making paneer cheese balls in an air fryer and also fried version.

Paneer is an Indian cheese produced with curdled milk and a fruit or vegetable acid such as lemon juice. This dish is made all over the Indian Subcontinent, but Bengalis love it the most. It comprises of fresh cheese balls that are boiled and then steeped in a saffron sugar syrup.

According to legend, a Massachusetts farmer fashioned the first known cheese ball in 1801 and presented it to President Thomas Jefferson at the White House. It reportedly weighed 1,235 pounds. Paneer is often credited to Persian and Afghan monarchs who introduced it to North India in the 16th century, where it was produced with either goat or sheep rennet. The word paneer stems from the Turkish and Persian words peynir which simply means cheese.

    About Paneer Cheese Balls

Paneer cheese balls is a popular indian snack made using a combination of paneer, cheese. Sometimes potatoes are added for binding. Herbs like oregano, parsley and other flavourings are added.

This whole mixture is mixed together with seasonings of your choice. The moistness from the paneer and cheese will help this to bind together.

The mixture is then shaped into small balls. A slurry of flour is made and this balls are dipped in the flour batter and coated in breadcrumbs.

The balls are either cooked in an air fryer or deep fried.

    Paneer Cheese Balls Ingredients

Few ingredients are mixed together and shaped into balls. Later the balls are fried till crisp texture. You can either choose to fry the paneer balls or bake them in air fryer or an oven.

    Paneer

Use homemade or store bought paneer for this recipe. it is best to grate the paneer using a large grater. But you can crumble the paneer as well.

    Potato

Boiled and mashed potato is added in this snack. Potato act as a binding, but more over it is for taste and texture. Boiled potatoes aid in the cohesiveness of the ingredients, especially the crushed paneer. If you want to prepare these paneer balls, I
recommend boiling the potatoes a day ahead of time. Once the boiled potatoes have cooled fully, store them in the refrigerator with their skins intact. When you're ready to make the paneer balls, peel and grate the cooled potatoes. As the chilled potatoes soak up all of the moisture from the veggies and paneer, this step guarantees that the dough for the paneer balls does not become soggy.

    Cheese

I like to use mozarella cheese in this recipe. But grated cheddar can be used in which case you have to adjust the salt level in this.

    Dried Herbs

The flavouring and herbs are totally to your preference. You can use any herbs you like. Oregano, basil, chilli flakes, parsley can be used. If you want to use red chilli powder and garam masala powder, you can use that as well.

How to Use an Air fryer?

You can easily make any deep fried snack in an air fryer. Just pop it in the required temperature and it will crisp up easily.

Air fryers are full of hot air, and that’s what is great about them. They are basically small, powerful ovens, and ovens use air as a vehicle for heat, whereas deep frying uses fat as the vehicle for heat.

Because air fryers are ovens and not fryers, foods that come out of your air fryer will not be 100% identical to the one that comes out of a fryer. But it is very healthy for you.

Certain foods need certain temperature to cook in an air fryer. So read the recipe properly and bake it in that heat. Also a drizzle of oil or a spray coat of oil helps the food crisp up nicely.
