Colourful Beetroot Dal Recipe – Toddler Special Recipes

Beetroot dal is a very simple and basic recipe but looks very vibrannt and colourful. I made this for my daughter and it turned out really good and delicious. I have been sharing so many dal recipes lately and i thought even though this is simple it will be a great addition to my list.

Hope you will give this a try and let me know how it turns out for you..
Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 30 mins
Serves: 6 to 8

Ingredients:

Split yellow moong dal / Pasi paruppu – 1 cup
Beetroot – 1 large peeled and grated
Shallots / Sambar Onion – 6 to 8 peeled
Garlic – 6 fat cloves peeled
Green Chillies – 1 or to taste
Salt to taste
Water 2 to 3 cups
For Seasoning:
Ghee or Oil – 1 tblspn
Cumin Seeds – 2 tsp
Curry leaves a small handful

Method:

Take dal in a bowl and wash it well. Add in beetroot, chillies, small onion, garlic and water and bring it to a boil. Simmer the flame and cook for 20 mins till it is done.

Now add in salt and  mix well.

Now heat ghee and crackle some cumin seeds and curry leaves. Pour this over the dal and mix well.

Top with lots of coriander leaves,

Serve with rice.

Pictorial:
Wash yellow moong dal well and take it in a sauce pan
add in grated beetroots
add in shallots, garlic and green chilli
cover with water
cover with a lid and cook
now it is done
add in salt
mix well
heat oil or ghee in a small pan
add in cumin seeds
add in curry leaves
pour seasoning over the dal
mix well
serve

    Nice idea aarthi. Even elders can have this for lunch with rice. I just replaced moong dal with black eyed peas sprout. It's nice. No regrets 🙂
