Baking Time : 35 to 40 mins
Serves: 5 to 6
All Purpose Flour / Maida – 1 cup / 120 grams
Sugar – 1/2 cup / 100 grams
Milk – 1/2 cup / 120 ml
Oil – 1/2 cup / 120 ml
Vanilla Essence – 1 tsp
Baking Soda / Cooking Soda – 1/2 tsp
Salt a pinch
Orange Zest – 1.5 tsp
For Orange Syrup:
Water – 1/2 cup / 120 ml
Orange Juice – 3/4 cup / 180 ml
Sugar – 4 to 5 tblspn
(My 1 cup measures 240 ml)
Method:
Preheat oven to 180 degree C. Grease a 15 cm round cake pan with oil and dust it with flour. Coat it on all sides and tap off the excess flour.
Take oil, sugar, milk, vanilla in a bowl and whisk till sugar is melted. Now add in orange zest and mix well.
Add in flour, baking soda and salt. Fold gently. Spoon this in prepared pan and bake for 35 to 45 mins. Check with a toothpick to see whether it is baked or not, if it comes clean then it is baked.
Remove it and let it cool for 5 mins. Now invert it to a cooling rack.
When the cake is baking, you have to make the syrup. Take all ingredients in a sauce pan and boil it for 5 mins. Set aside so the syrup cools a bit. The syrup has to be little warm when pouring over the cake.
Now spoon the syrup all over the hot cake so it just soaks up.
Now cool it a bit, slice and serve with more syrup on side.

Hi arthi…i tried ur eggless orange cake bt i end up with a dense cake though i baked it fr 45min in convection mode still it was giving a raw flavour wat u think y it happnd???
@AnonymousI think may be your baking powder or dosa is old. try using a new batch
Can we do this cake in pressure cooker? From wer we wil get orange zest?
@Nishau can try making this in cooker, orange zest is nothing but grated orange skin. Grate only the orange part of the skin not the under white part.
Hey Aarthi…. I baked my first cake today and i am extremely happy with the outcome…though it is my first try i read all your recipes…. and this orange zest cake came out so well, everyone loved it to the core… <3 thanks a ton
Can I make it in microwave???
@Anu Karwalif ur microwave has convection mode you can bake
Can we use whole wheat instead of Maida?
Hello Madame, thank you for the recipe. Did you used baking powder or baking soda? You've commented baking powder but mentioned baking soda in your recipe. I don't think that baking soda will give a good flavor for a non sour eggless cake, this is what I'm certain. Please give us a proper ingredient. Have a good day, greetings from Mauritius!
Is it possible to make this without orange zest? Would it come out ok?
Hi, In the receiepe you have Baking Soda and no Baking Powder hence my cake did not rise as I though it would. Do we use Baking Powder or is Baking Soda correct?
Thanks
This recipe calls for only baking soda. and not baking powder
This was a success !! the fam loved it too.
I ‘ve been looking for recipes for eggless breakfast ideas , specially since most eggless cakes i ve made didn’t taste good .
Can I refrigerate the syrup soaked cake & decorate it the next day? Will it be stable or likely to crumble?
Thanks..
