I get inspired from everything..This cake is a inspiration from my kitchen rules show. I saw this cake is made in a episode and loved the look and name of it, and guess the next day i have been making my own version of it.

I decided to make it eggless, so even vegetarians can enjoy it. I used a basic eggless sponge cake and added some orange zest to it and made it orange flavoured, Then poured the lovely orange syrup all over it and the cake was just beautiful, it absorbed the orange syrup so much..Hubby who is not much a cake lover, absolutely loved it..From that i know that this is a keeper recipe..
Hope you will love this recipe and let me know how it turns out for you..
Preparation Time : 15 mins
Baking Time : 35 to 40 mins
Serves: 5 to 6

Ingredients:

All Purpose Flour / Maida – 1 cup / 120 grams
Sugar – 1/2 cup / 100 grams
Milk – 1/2 cup / 120 ml
Oil – 1/2 cup / 120 ml
Vanilla Essence – 1 tsp
Baking Soda / Cooking Soda – 1/2 tsp
Salt a pinch
Orange Zest – 1.5 tsp

For Orange Syrup:

Water – 1/2 cup / 120 ml
Orange Juice – 3/4 cup / 180 ml
Sugar – 4 to 5 tblspn

(My 1 cup measures 240 ml)

Method:

Preheat oven to 180 degree C. Grease a 15 cm round cake pan with oil and dust it with flour. Coat it on all sides and tap off the excess flour.

Take oil, sugar, milk, vanilla in a bowl and whisk till sugar is melted. Now add in orange zest and mix well.

Add in flour, baking soda and salt. Fold gently. Spoon this in prepared pan and bake for 35 to 45 mins. Check with a toothpick to see whether it is baked or not, if it comes clean then it is baked.

Remove it and let it cool for 5 mins. Now invert it to a cooling rack.

When the cake is baking, you have to make the syrup. Take all ingredients in a sauce pan and boil it for 5 mins. Set aside so the syrup cools a bit. The syrup has to be little warm when pouring over the cake.

Now spoon the syrup all over the hot cake  so it just soaks up.

Now cool it a bit, slice and serve with more syrup on side.

@Nishau can try making this in cooker, orange zest is nothing but grated orange skin. Grate only the orange part of the skin not the under white part.

Hello Madame, thank you for the recipe. Did you used baking powder or baking soda? You've commented baking powder but mentioned baking soda in your recipe. I don't think that baking soda will give a good flavor for a non sour eggless cake, this is what I'm certain. Please give us a proper ingredient. Have a good day, greetings from Mauritius!

Hi, In the receiepe you have Baking Soda and no Baking Powder hence my cake did not rise as I though it would. Do we use Baking Powder or is Baking Soda correct?

    Thanks

Can I refrigerate the syrup soaked cake & decorate it the next day? Will it be stable or likely to crumble?
    Thanks..
