About this Recipe
This Orange Syrup Cake is out of this world delicious. The orange flavour is stronger than any other version you've tried. It's also tender and buttery. The orange syrup transforms this simple sponge cake into a bite of sunshine. The cake can be served warm or cold, making it the ideal tea-time treat. Serve with whipped fresh cream, which complements the sweet syrup-soaked cake perfectly.

I decided to make it eggless, so even vegetarians can enjoy it. I used a basic eggless sponge cake and added some orange zest to it and made it orange flavoured, Then poured the lovely orange syrup all over it and the cake was just beautiful, it absorbed the orange syrup so much..Hubby who is not much a cake lover, absolutely loved it..From that i know that this is a keeper recipe.
Ingredients for Eggless Orange Syrup Cake Recipe :
Orange Zest :
A small amount of orange zest adds a zing of orange flavour to a variety of dishes, from baked goods and salad dressings to vegetable side dishes and main course marinades.
Orange Juice :
Substitute orange juice for water and/or milk in your favourite cake and quick bread recipes for a bold flavour boost. You'll instantly add a bright flavour to your treats that will be pleasantly refreshing.
Baking Soda:
Baking soda is a leavening agent that is commonly used in baked goods such as cakes, muffins, and cookies. It is a white crystalline powder that is naturally alkaline, or basic. It is also known as sodium bicarbonate. When baking soda is combined with both an acidic and a liquid, it becomes activated.
Orange Syrup Cake Preparation
- Preheat oven to 180 degree C. Grease a 15 cm round cake pan with oil and dust it with flour. Coat it on all sides and tap off the excess flour.
- Take oil, sugar, milk, vanilla in a bowl and whisk till sugar is melted. Now add in orange zest and mix well.
- Add in flour, baking soda and salt. Fold gently. Spoon this in prepared pan and bake for 35 to 45 mins. Check with a toothpick to see whether it is baked or not, if it comes clean then it is baked.
- Remove it and let it cool for 5 mins. Now invert it to a cooling rack.
- When the cake is baking, you have to make the syrup. Take all ingredients in a sauce pan and boil it for 5 mins. Set aside so the syrup cools a bit. The syrup has to be little warm when pouring over the cake.
- Now spoon the syrup all over the hot cake so it just soaks up.
- Cool it a bit, slice and serve with more syrup on side.

Can we do this cake in pressure cooker? From wer we wil get orange zest?
Aarthi
@Nishau can try making this in cooker, orange zest is nothing but grated orange skin. Grate only the orange part of the skin not the under white part.

Can we use whole wheat instead of Maida?
Manisha Caleechurn
Hello Madame, thank you for the recipe. Did you used baking powder or baking soda? You've commented baking powder but mentioned baking soda in your recipe. I don't think that baking soda will give a good flavor for a non sour eggless cake, this is what I'm certain. Please give us a proper ingredient. Have a good day, greetings from Mauritius!

Is it possible to make this without orange zest? Would it come out ok?
YUM
Hi, In the receiepe you have Baking Soda and no Baking Powder hence my cake did not rise as I though it would. Do we use Baking Powder or is Baking Soda correct?
Thanks
Aarthi
This recipe calls for only baking soda. and not baking powder
