    Palakkad Chicken Curry Recipe with step wise pictures.

    Super simple but delicious chicken curry made palakkad style using shallots, onions and fresh masala. This deep coloured chicken curry not only taste amazing but is easy to make as well.

    This is a simple chicken curry made using fresh spices and shallots. The masala is darker in colour which gives the curry a deep rich colour.

    This chicken dish is so easy to make, you need basic ingredients. If you use small chicken pieces then it will be more tasty.

    Palakkad Chicken Curry Recipe

    Ingredients

    • Chicken - 1 kg bonein and cut into small pieces
    • Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
    • Salt to taste

    FOR ROASTING & GRINDING:

    • Shallots / Sambar Onion - 15
    • Dry Red Chillies - 5 to 6
    • Coriander powder - 3 tblsp
    • Red Chilli Powder - 1 tblsp
    • Cumin powder - 2 tsp
    • Garam Masala Powder - 1 tblsp
    • Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
    • Coconut Oil - 1 tblsp + 3 tblsp
    • Onion - 2 large sliced thinly
    • Curry Leaves a handful
    • Ginger Garlic paste - 2 tblsp
    • Lemon Juice - to taste
    • Coriander Leaves a handful chopped finely
    • Curry leaves a sprig
    • Salt to taste

    Instructions

    • Take chicken in a bowl add salt and turmeric and mix well. leave to marinate for 30 mins.
    • Heat 1 tblsp oil in a kadai. Add in shallots and dry red chillies and fry for 3 mins. Remove to a blender.
    • Now in the same kadai. Add in spice powders and toast them for 2 to 3 mins.
    • Remove to the same blender and puree till smooth.
    • Heat more oil in the kadai. Add in onions and curry leaves and cook till golden.
    • Add in ginger garlic paste and mix well.
    • Add in chicken and mix well.
    • Cover and cook the chicken till it is half done.
    • Add in the ground masala and mix well. Cover again and cook for 10 to 15 mins on low flame.
    • Turn off the heat and add in lemon juice, curry leaves and coriander leaves. Mix well.
    • Serve.

    Pictorial:

    1)Take chicken in a bowl, add salt and turmeric powder. Mix well and leave to marinate for 30 mins.

    2)Heat oil in a pan, Add chillies and shallots

    3)Saute for 2 to 3 mins.

    4)Remove to a plate to cool.

    5)In the same pan, add in spice powders

    6)Roast on low heat for 2 to 3 mins till colour darkens

    6)Now it is darkened

    7)Remove to the same plate

    8)Now take it in a blender

    9)Puree till smooth

    10)Heat more coconut oil in a pan

    11)Add in sliced onions and curry leaves

    12)Add salt

    13)Cook till golden

    14)Add in ginger garlic paste

    15)Add in chicken

    16)Mix well

    17)Cover and cook

    18)Now chicken is half cooked

    19)Add in ground masala

    20)Mix well. Cover and simmer for 10 mins

    21)Now oil has separated

    22)Add lemon juice

    23)Add curry leaves and coriander leaves

    24)Serve
