Bananas are high in potassium. In our place we get a type of banana called as “matti pazham“. It will small in size and smells so sweet. We mash them up and feed babies. You dont have to steam them. It is really good for babies. But i have heard that you cannot find it in many places. But i am sure that nendran pazham is easily available in all places. And it makes a great baby food. But i prefer to steam it and feed baby, so it is easily digestable. Plus it is a great food for weight gaining in babies.

Things to remember:

1)Texture of the puree depends upon you, i would recommend you to make the puree smooth.

2)Your baby wont empty the whole bowl all at once, start with few spoons then increase it gradually as days pass by.

3)In
my opinion & experience banana wont cause any constipation in
babies. I feed this banana puree thrice a week.

4)
I don’t prefer freezing purees. I make it fresh everyday.

5)Ripe Bananas are less likely to have any allergenic reactions.

6)Use ripe banana for this, it will taste good and is easy digestable.

How to sterilize baby feeding bowls:

Start
by sterilizing the bowls and spoons which you are going to feed your
baby. Take the bowl and spoon in a large saucepan, cover it with water
and bring them to a boil. Boil it rapidly for 5 mins. Now you can turn
the heat off and leave them stay in the hot water till use.

How to make Steamed Mashed Banana:

Take a ripe banana (nendrapazham). It has to be fresh and ripe. Cut it in half and place it on a steamer plate.

Place the plate on the steamer and cover it. Steam for a good 10 to 12 mins.

Pierce with a knife to see whether it is cooked. If you goes in easily then it is cooked.

Peel the skin off and cut it into small pieces.

Put them in a blender and puree them. You can add some clean water to adjust the consistency.

Pour this into sterlized clean bowls and feed your baby.

Pictorial:

Take a ripe banana (nendra pazham)
Cut it in half
Place a steamer on top of a pan of water
Place the banana on top
cover and steam for 10 mins
Bananas are cooked
pierce to see if it is cooked
peel it off
cut it into small pieces
Now take them in a blender
Puree them, you can add some water
Feed your baby.
