Roasted rice kolukattai also known as chambara kozhukattai is an authentic recipe from nagercoil.

Time is flying like anything. I can't believe that 17 days have already passed. I still couldn't believe that i am a mom now. Was in an excited state till now. Being in a very busy schedule. I am finding a little time to look after my blog while my lil bundle of joy is sleeping. I am typing this looking at her rosy  sleeping cheeks. Love her a lot <3

When i was pregnant with my girl, i asked my mom for this recipe. It was like a craving for me. I took pictures of my mom making it for you, because this recipe is our family traditional recipe. I am sure that you must not be aware of this recipe or even heard of it.

Only few people in our place knows this recipe. I am begging you to try this because this kozhukattai is so soft and packet with full of flavours. It just need few ingredients and few basic steps, but the reward is totally worth it.

    Ingredients for Chambara Kozhukattai

    Rice
    Salt to taste
    Fresh Coconut

    For Seasoning:
    Oil
    Mustard Seeds / Kaduku
    Channa Dal / Kadala Paruppu
    Urad Dal / Ulundu Parupppu
    Dry Red Chilli
    Curry leaves a big handful

    How to make Chambara Kozhukattai

    • Measure rice and add it to a huge kadai. Roast them for 10 to 15 mins till it roast well and turn golden. Remove it to a plate and allow it to cool down.
    • Now transfer it to a mixing bowl and cover it with water. Let it soak for 4 hours.
    • Now drain it and add it to a blender. Grind it into a rough paste. Dont add water while grinding.
    • Make seasoning. Heat oil and crackle all the seasoning ingredients. Let it sizzle for a min. Add this to the rice mixture.
    • Now add in salt and coconut. Mix well.
    • Take a small portion and form into small balls.
    • Pop them into a steamer and steam it for 10 mins.
    • Serve hot or warm.

It is so healthy at the same time so filling too. We usually have this for breakfast and love it. If you are in a busy schedule, you can roast the rice in bulk and cool it completely before storing it in air tight container.  And you can soak that rice overnight and make kozhukattai in the morning.

I hope you will love it and let me know how it turned out for you.
