Drumstick Sambar Recipe / Murungakkai Sambar Recipe

Sambar, Delicious Sambar plays a important roll in southindian lunch menu. No festival or marriage function meal is complete without it..That famous sambar has lots of different faces, it can be made a whole lots of way. Each region in south india has its own way of making it..Some make sambar with freshly roast spices ground and added to it, some has coconut in their sambar, some has white sambar recipe..I will soon share all those avatar of sambar her in my blog. But i too have posted quite a lot of sambar variation here, you can check out my onion sambar, radish sambar, tiffin sambar(which is quite famous recipe here) and my all time favorite potato sambar. You can even check my vegetable sambar too..

This is a different sambar recipe which is made with drumstick and three different dals. So it is really healthy one..The drumstick added in this gives a very unique taste to the sambar and flavours the sambar a lot. I used my homemade sambar powder for this, that too enhanced the taste a lot. So try this out and let me know how it turned out for you..
Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 40 to 45 mins
Serves : 5 to 6


Ingredients:

Toor Dal / Tuvaram Paruppu – 1/4 cup
Masoor Dal – 1/4 cup
Yellow Moong Dal / Pasi Paruppu – 1/4 cup
Shallots / Sambar Onion – 6 to 7 peeled
Drumstick – 1 large cut into pieces
Tamarind Pulp – 2 tblspn
Salt to taste
Sugar – 1 tsp
Homemade Sambar Powder – 3 to 4 tblspn


For Seasoning:
Ghee / Oil – 1 tblspn
Mustard Seeds / Kaduku – 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam – 1 tsp
Asafoetida / Kaya Podi / Hing – 1/4 tsp

Method:

Wash all the dals really well. Add it to a pot along with shallots. Cover with water. Bring it to boil, cover and simmer for 15 mins till the daln is 3/4th cooked.

Now add in drumstick, salt, sugar, tamarind pulp, sambar powder and mix well. Bring this to boil and simmer again for 20 to 25 mins till everything is cooked.

Now make seasoning by heating ghee and crackling mustard and cumin. Add in asafoetida and mix well.

Pour this over the sambar and mix well.

Serve.


Pictorial:
Take all your ingredients
Wash your dals really well
Add it to a pot along with some shallots
cover with water
bring it to boil
cover and simmer…
Now the dals are 3/4th cooked
Add in drumstick
some tamarind pulp
salt and sugar
and homemade sambar powder
Bring it to boil
Cover and simmer again
Now the sambar is done
Heat ghee in a pan
Add in mustard and cumin 
Add in asafoetida
Pour this over the sambar
Mix well
Serve

    Aarthi chechi.. i had visited a number of blogs for ccoking, but each time i tried it never tasted as good as it was mentioned in their blog.. but your recipes what i have tried turned out suuuper. I think that is because you are so sweet that you even share the secret in each recipe.
