How to Make Fresh Ground Black Pepper Powder at Home

I found out that roasted black pepper in a dry pan till aromatic enhances the flavour of the ground pepper. Dry roast pepper for 4 to 5 mins. Allow it cool and grind them in a blender. You can make small batches of this and store in an air tight container.

Having fresh crushed pepper on hands makes you to use it more in your cooking since it has so much health benefits.

    1. Improved Digestion: Black pepper may stimulate the production of digestive enzymes, promoting better digestion and reducing digestive discomfort. It has been used traditionally as a digestive aid.

    2. Enhanced Nutrient Absorption: Piperine in black pepper has been shown to enhance the bioavailability of certain nutrients, including curcumin (found in turmeric), vitamin B12, and beta-carotene, by increasing their absorption in the body.

    3. Antioxidant Properties: Black pepper contains antioxidants that help protect cells from damage caused by harmful free radicals. Antioxidants play a role in reducing the risk of chronic diseases, such as heart disease and certain types of cancer.

    4. Anti-inflammatory Effects: Piperine in black pepper has demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties in various studies. Inflammation is associated with several chronic diseases, and reducing inflammation may have positive effects on overall health.

    5. Potential Weight Loss Aid: Some research suggests that black pepper may help support weight loss by increasing metabolism, improving fat breakdown, and reducing fat accumulation. However, more studies are needed to confirm these effects.

    6. Respiratory Relief: Black pepper has been used in traditional medicine to relieve respiratory symptoms like congestion, coughs, and sinusitis. Its warming properties and ability to stimulate circulation may help alleviate these respiratory issues.

    7. Antibacterial Effects: Some studies have shown that black pepper possesses antibacterial properties and may inhibit the growth of certain bacteria, including those that cause foodborne illnesses.

    Notes

    1. Use high quality black peppercorns. peppercorns that are fresh, aromatic, and free from any signs of moisture or mold. Whole black peppercorns will provide the best flavor when ground.
    2. Peppercorns have a stronger flavor when they are freshly ground. So I like to make my pepper powder in small batches and use it ASAP.
    3. Dry-roasting the peppercorns in a pan over low heat for a few minutes can enhance their flavor and aroma. Just be careful not to burn them, as it can result in a bitter taste.
    4. To preserve the flavor and aroma of the black pepper powder, store it in an airtight container in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. This will help maintain its quality for a longer period.
