Homemade Soy Milk Recipe / Soy Milk Recipe / How to Make Soy Milk at Home


Soy Milk are pretty expensive, a carton of soy milk cost nearly 200 rs. But i love the taste of it a lot. Love to add it to my morning oatmeal, milkshakes and to drink it as it is..But the price of it put me off in getting one..So i decided to try it by myself. To my surprise it turned out great. I made a vanilla flavour milk. You could make a chocolate flavour milk by adding some cocoa powder to the milk and cooking it a little longer. Give this a try and let me know how it turned out...


Preparation Time : 15 mins
Cooking Time : 30 mins
Soaking Time : 8 Hours or overnight
Makes - 500 ml or 1/2 liter of milk

Ingredients:

Dried Soy Beans - 1 cup
Water - 2 cups
Sugar or Honey to taste
Vanilla Essence - 1 tsp

Method:

Wash and Soak dried soy beans overnight in lots of water. Drain it and add it to a blender. Puree them with 1/2 cup of water to a smooth paste.

Now line a cheesecloth over a sauce pan. Pour the pureed mixture over this and squeeze lightly to remove the milk from it. Now you can add 1/2 cup more water to the squeezed mix and squeeze again to remove as much milk as possible. Keep doing this two more time by adding 1/2 cup of water each time. As a total you must have added 2 cups of water.

Now place saucepan on heat and bring it to boil. Use a ladle to spoon all the scum which forms on the top of the milk. Keep doing this every now and then.

Simmer the pan and cook it for 25 to 30 mins.

Now strain this milk using a fine sieve. Allow it to cool down.

Once it is cooled add in sugar and vanilla as per your taste. 

Chill it and serve.

Notes:

1)You can use the leftover soya pulp is a called as okara..It can be used in various recipes..

2)You can make chocolate flavoured soy milk, by adding cocoa powder in the last minute of cooking.

3)You can remove the skin before grinding too, but many people grind the soya bean with skin and strain it after that. But removing skin before grinding reduces the beany taste.

4)Soya Bean can be used in many vegan recipes in place of milk.

Soak soy beans in lots of water overnight

Take them in your hands

rub them to remove the skin

remove all of them

Add it to blender

once it is crushed

add half cup of water

puree them

line a sauce pan with a colander

line it with cheesecloth

add the pureed mix in

squeeze it out

now add in 1/2 cup of water 

squeeze again. Do this two more times
by adding 1/2 cup of water each time

now all milk strained

heat it up

keep stiring

you will see foam forming on top

scoop it out

discard it

keep simmering

you will see more scum forming

just scoop it off

this is also called as yuba, many use it for cooking,
i didn't get that many so i discarded it

All done

Strain it

cool it

once cooled add sugar

some vanilla 

mix well and chill it

serve

  7. Tried this recipe for my son 4 yrs old who has milk intolerance .thanks aarthi for this recipe.. Actually I was worried that what shall I give him instead of dairy products..,also he has other food intolerance too..but he can have soya .. now I use this recipe
