Eggless Checkerboard Cookies Recipe / Vanilla & Chocolate Checkerboard Cookies Recipe



I made a checkerboard cake recipe few days back and it got really good response with my viewers which made me try different fancy cakes and cookies..I decided to try my hand on these beautiful checkerboard cookies.

They are pretty easy to make and it is eggless. These cookies are not only fun to look at, but they taste really good as well. Taste buttery and melt in mouth. But the combination of chocolate and vanilla is what matters.

Preparation Time : 30 mins
Chilling Time :1  hour
Baking Time : 15 to 17 mins
Makes : 10 to 12 cookies

Ingredients:

All Purpose Flour / Maida - 1 3/4 cup / 210 grams
Sugar -  3/4 cup / 150 grams Powdered
Unsalted Butter - 150 grams Soft
Cocoa Powder - 2 tblspn
Vanilla Essence - 1 tsp
Salt - a pinch
Milk - 1 to 2 tblspn

Method:

Take butter, sugar, vanilla in a bowl and cream it well.

Add in flour, salt and mix well. Add in milk and knead it to a soft dough.

Divide it into equal portions. Add cocoa in one dough and knead well.

Now cover the dough with plastic wrap and chill in fridge untill firm.

Take the dough out and cut each one into two portions.

Take one portion and roll it into a rectangle, take each dough and roll it like the same size of the first one.

Now take a vanilla rectangle, brush with little water, place chocolate rectangle on top and brush again with water, place vanilla rectangle over it, brush with some more water and finally place the chocolate rectangle over it. Cover the whole thing with plastic wrap and chill untill firm.

Now remove it from fridge, trim the sides, Cut into four equal portions.

Now take one strip and brush with water, place another strip, make sure the alternate colours are stacked. Repeat this.

Now wrap and chill for 30 mins.

Now cut into squares. Arrange it in baking sheet which is lined with parchment. Bake this for 15 to 17 mins in a preheated oven at 170 degree C.

Remove it and let it cool.

Store it in a air tight container. Serve with milk.

Take all your ingredients

whip till creamy


add in flour


and little salt


mix well


now it looks almost crumbly


add in milk


knead to a soft dough





divide it into equal portions


take it in two bowl


in one bowl, add in cocoa powder


knead it to a chocolate dough


cover with plastic wrap


chill in fridge


now remove it from fridge


cut it into two portions


take one ball


roll it between two plastic wrap


shape it into rectangle


just like this


now take a chocolate dough


roll it similar to the vanilla dough


brush the vanilla dough with some water


put the chocolate dough on top


now brush some more water


place another vanilla dough


now brush the top with little water and place the
final chocolate dough


wrap it lightly and chill for 30 mins


now take it from the fridge, trim the sides, dont throw it, we will be making marble cookies using these scraps


cut this into 4 parts

now take one dough..Place chocolate strips facing in the end


brush with water


now take the other dough, make sure you have vanilla strips on the end


Can you see that, you have to place alternate colour stacking up


just like this..Now wrap it up


chill in fridge


remove it from fridge


cut it out


arrange it in a tray


I shapes the scraps together and roll it into a ball and flattened it out


arrange it in a tray


bake them


cool the down and serve.

    How many cookies will this recipe yield? Including the marble ones ha ha

    U add things like it vl serve this much people.. it vl give us so much chapatis/cookies/ or haf kg cake approx like that...its . much useful i have seen ..for us broots who hav no idea abt cooking results

  10. Watched out ur post on fb nd ran into kitchen to prepare it. Everything baked. But wanted to know, are the cookies cruncy or soft? Mine left with not soft as ghee cookies nor crunchy but litle soft and crunchy. What to do to get the cookies soft..Tassted great.

  12. thank Arathi for nice recipe...I tried it..and it came out very nice. bt one confusion..my cup measurements is 1cup =250 ml..you gv amount of flour 150gm...bt in that cup when I measure 150gm flour n try to make the dough it was nt forming..I need to put more flour...you have written 150gm flour or 1 3/4 cup. ..in my cup 1 3/4 cup means 250+183ml....nt able to understand hw much flour I need to add..please clarify...
