Chilli Fish Recipe
One of my favourite foods to order on a take out is this chilli chicken. Restaurant style chilli chicken is so delicious and kind of addictive. I have tried chilli chicken at home and it was a family favorite.
I made slight modication to the chilli chicken recipe and used fish in that. It turned out to be great. One of the best fish recipe that I have ever made.

- Fish - you have to use firm white flesh fish for this recipe. Use boneless fish for best taste.
- Marination for fish - spice powders, yogurt, lemon, ginger and garlic is used for marination.
- Flour - like all Indo Chinese recipes, you need a combo of plain flour and cornstarch.
- Fresh Ingredients - You need garlic, onions, capsicum, chillies for sauteing.
- Sauces & Seasonings - you need ketchup, soy, chilli sauce, vinegar, salt, black pepper, sugar, MSG for seasonings.

Step by Step Pictures
Make Sauce
1)Heat oil in a skillet. Add in chopped garlic, onions, bell peppers and green chillies. Saute for 1 to 2 minute.

2)Add in chopped tomatoes and give a quick toss.

3)Add in tomato ketchup, green chilli sauce and soy sauce.

4)Add some vinegar to the peppers and mix well.

5)Add in red chilli powder and mix well.

6)Season with salt and sugar and mix well. If you are using MSG add a pinch here.

7)Pour in ¼ cup of water and give a good mix. Set this aside while we prepare the fish.

Marinating Fish
8)Take boneless fish pieces in a bowl. Make sure to pat dry completely so the masala sticks to the fish.

9)Squeeze in some lemon juice.

10)Add in crushed ginger garlic paste and salt.

11)Add in turmeric powder, chilli powder.

12)Pour in some thick yogurt.

13)Add in plain flour and cornstarch. This combo makes the fried fish crispy.

14)Mix well. This is your marinate for fish.

Frying Fish
15)Heat oil for deep frying. Once oil gets hot, drop fish in and fry till golden.

16)Flip and fry till golden brown. Strain this fried fish and drop into the sauce.

Making Chilli Fish
17)Now take the sauce, heat it again on high heat. Now add in fried fish and mix well.

18)Toss the fish into the sauce on high heat.

19)Add in black pepper powder and mix well.

20)Toss well on high heat. Add in spring onions and mix well.

21)Serve hot.

- Sunflower Oil for deep frying
Marinating Fish
- 500 grams Boneless Fish trevally, paarai meen, king fish, salmon
- 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
- 1 teaspoon Salt to taste
- 1 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
- 1 tablespoon Kashmiri Chilli Powder
- 1 teaspoon Black Pepper Powder
- 2 tablespoon Ginger Garlic Paste
- 2 tablespoon Plain Yogurt
- 2 tablespoon All Purpose Flour (Plain flour)
- 4 tablespoon Cornstarch
For Chilli Fish Sauce
- 1 tablespoon Sesame Oil
- 2 tablespoon Garlic peeled & chopped fineluy
- 1 large Onion peeled & cubed
- 1 medium Capsicum (Bell Pepper) cubed
- 1 small Tomatoes cubed
- 2 no Green Chillies chopped
- ¼ cup Water or as needed
Sauces & Seasonings
- 2 tablespoon Green Chilli Sauce
- 3 tablespoon Tomato Ketchup
- 2 teaspoon Light Soy Sauce
- 2 teaspoon Vinegar
- ½ teaspoon Salt or to taste
- 1 teaspoon Sugar
- ¼ teaspoon MSG optional
- 1 teaspoon Red Chilli powder
- 1 teaspoon Black Pepper Powder
For Garnishing
- 2 no Spring Onions (Green Onions)
Instructions
- Make Chilli Fish Sauce - Start by making the sauce. Heat oil in a pan, add garlic, onions, green chillies, capsicum and saute on high for 2 minutes. Add in tomatoes and toss on high for a minute.
- Now add in soy sauce, green chilli sauce, tomato ketchup, vinegar, red chilli powder, salt, sugar, MSG and mix well. Pour in ¼ cup of water and bring it to a boil. Take it off the heat and set aside while we fry the fish.
- Marinate Fish - Take fish and all ingredients given for marination and mix well. Set aside while you heat oil.
- Frying Fish - Heat oil for deep frying, drop fish in hot oil and fry till golden brown. Strain the fish on some paper towel.
- Tossing Chilli Fish - Reheat the sauce on high heat. Add the fried fish into the sauce and toss on high heat. Sprinkle black pepper powder, spring onions and mix well. Serve hot.
