Granola Recipe with step by step pictures. This is made with Instant Oats, Dry Fruits and Butter. Best breakfast recipe.

    Granola

Okay I had to admit, i have consumed packets and packets of muesli when i was pregnant. Am not sure about the month, but sometime in my second trimester, i craved a lot of this stuff for breakfast. I know it is good with full of oats, nuts and dried fruits. But few months after that I totally disliked it, I never want to see that stuff again. Yes you guys know about pregnancy right.

From those days, It's been a while since i had this muesli. Few weeks back, i thought to give this a try at home, since i had all the ingredients on hand. And i should tell you, it was thousand times better than the ones which you get at stores.

    Ingredients for Granola Recipe

    • Instant Oats - 3 cups
    • Whole Flax Seeds - 1 cup
    • Almonds / Badam - ¼ cup
    • Cashewnuts - ¼ cup
    • Dried Apricots - 5 chopped finely
    • Dried Cranberries - ¼ cup
    • Sultanas / Kishmish - ¼ cup
    • Brown Sugar / Jaggery - ½ cup
    • Cinnamon Powder - 2 tsp
    • Butter - 3 tbsp
    • Honey - ½ cup
    • Vanilla Essence - 1 tsp

    How to make Granola Recipe

    1. Preheat the oven to 160 Degree C.
    2. Take oats, flax seeds, almonds, cashews, cinnamon in a large mixing bowl . Toss well.
    3. Now in a sauce pan, take butter, jaggery, honey, vanilla and heat it till it is melted.
    4. Pour this over the oats mix and toss well.
    5. Now grease a large baking sheet with high sides. Tip this mix in the tray and spread it evenly in a thin layer.

    Baking Granola

    1. Now put this in a preheated oven for 30 to 35 mins, remove this every 10 mins from the oven and give a good mix and put it back in the oven..
    2. At one stage the oats will have turned crispy and not at all sticky.  Remove this from oven and add in dried apricots, cranberries, sultanas and mix well.
    3. Now allow this mix to cool down and store in an air tight container.
    4. Add hot milk or cold milk to this and enjoy, you can have it as it is too..

And now i can proudly say that this is the best granola or muesli in the world. I modified the recipe according to my taste and available ingredients. Normally they use rolled oats for this, but i couldn't find that stuff in my place, so i used quick cooking oats and it was delicious..I also used jaggery in place of brown sugar.

I had few bowls of this muesli mixed with milk in the following days, gave half of the mix to my mom and i reserved few cups of this for making the best granola muffins in the world. And today i did that too, it was amazing, i will post that recipe sometime by today, so keep an eye on my blog. This post is quite a big one, so be patient to load it for a while and check the pics out. Hope you will try this recipe and let me know how it turned out for you.

Hi aarthi, its an interesting Granola recipe and lovely pictures in here. I would like to share a small bit of information on granola and muesli. Though the ingredients are pretty much similar, the method of preparation is what distinguishes them. Granola is always sweetened, with a binder fat and cooked, whereas is muesli is raw, unsweetened and not cooked.
