    Kappa Biryani

     

    This is quite an unusual recipe from kerala, usually made and served with tea. The dish is so tasty and really so good. Taste heavenly. You have to try it for sure.

    Ingredients for Kappa Briyani

    For Tapioca:

    • Tapioca / Maravalli Kizhangu - 500 grams
    • Salt to taste
    • Water as needed for cooking
    • For Cooking Mutton:
    • Mutton / Lamb - 500 grams
    • Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
    • Salt to taste
    • Water as needed
    • For Mutton Curry:
    • Coconut Oil - ¼ cup
    • Fennel seeds / Sombu / Saunf - 1 tblspn
    • Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 1 tsp
    • Cinnamon / Pattai - 4 cm piece
    • Mace - 2
    • Kalpaasi - 2
    • Onion - 2 large sliced thinly
    • Ginger Garlic Paste - 2 tblspn
    • Coriander Powder - 2 tblspn
    • Chilli Powder - 1.5 tblspn
    • Cumin Powder - 2 tsp
    • Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
    • Garam Masala Powder - 2 tblspn
    • Coconut - 1 cup finely grated
    • Water as needed
    • Coriander Leaves a handful finely chopped

    How to make Kappa Briyani

    1. Peel and cube tapioca into small pieces. Take it in a small sauce pan, add salt to it and cover it with water. Cook till tender. Drain and set aside.
    2. Now cook mutton, take mutton in a pressure cooker, add salt, turmeric powder and water. cover and cook for 6 whistle, simmer for 15 mins. Turn off the heat and let the steam escape all by itself. Open the cooker and set aside.
    3. Now in a kadai, add in coconut and dry roast till golden. Set aside.
    4. Now in the same pan, add in oil and fry the whole spices.
    5. Now add in onions and cook till golden.
    6. Add in ginger garlic paste and cook for 2 mins.
    7. Add in spice powders and mix well.
    8. Now add in cooked mutton and mix well. bring it to a boil and simmer and 10 mins or so.
    9. Now add in cooked tapioca and mix well. cook till it thickens and simmer for 10 more mins.
    10. Now add in roasted coconut and coriander leaves. Mix well.
    11. Serve.

    Ingredients

    • For Tapioca:

    Take tapioca
    peel it
    wash it well
    cube it
    wash well
    take it in a saucepan
    cover with water
    add in salt
    cook till done
    take mutton in a cooker
    add salt and turmeric powder
    cover with water
    cook till done
    take coconut in a pan
    dry roast till golden
    remove and set aside
    heat coconut oil in a pan, add in whole spices
    fry for a min
    add in onion
    fry till golden
    add in ginger garlic paste
    now saute for few mins
    add in spice powders
    mix well
    add in mutton along with water

     

    mix well

     

    simmer for few mins
    add in tapioca
    mix well..simmer for few mins

     

    add in coconut

     

    add in coriander leaves

     

    mix well
