Keralan Fish Fry
Hope you all are getting ready to enjoy your weekends..For me this weekend is going to be a energetic and satisfied one, because tomorrow we have a function in our office and we have planned to open a food stall over there..We are going to keep all kinds of yummy stuffs and the money from that is going to a local charity(really a happy one right!!)..I am really excited about that and i am busy preparing yummy brownies for that stall…Will post all the pictures of that tomorrow..so wait for that..

Now coming back to today’s recipe…..Fish is one of the staple food in kerala and they like to fry their fish a lot…This recipe is one of the typical keralan dish…I used coconut oil to fry the fish like the keralan do..but you can use any oil as you like.. Hope you all will give this a try and let me know what you think..
Ingrediants:
Seer Fish Steaks( Any Fish fillets)- 4 piece
Coconut oil-5 tblspn
First Marinate:
Turmeric powder-1 tsp
Lemon juice-2 tsp
Salt –1 tsp
Second Marinate:
Red chilli powder-1 tblspn
Ginger Garlic Paste-1 tblspn
Coriander powder-1 tblspn
Pepper-1 tsp
Salt to taste
Lemon juice-2 tblspn
Method:
Take the fish fillets and marinate it with salt, turmeric and lemon juice.
In a mixing bowl mix chilli powder, coriander powder, ginger garlic paste, pepper, salt and lemon juice together and form a thick paste..If it is too thick you can add a little water to this..
Now apply this paste to the marinating fish fillets and let it rest for 30 min.
Heat coconut oil in a tawa and fry the fish on both sides till golden and completely cooked through.
Garnish it with onion rings and lemon juice..
Serve with rice..
Pictorial:
All ur ingrediants for fish
Marinate fish in salt, turmeric and lemon juice
mix all other ingrediants given in second marinate list…Squeeze in some lemon juice and mix well…
Apply this to fish fillets
Fry in oil on one side till it feels cooked
Flip it and cook on other side too…
Done..
SERVE
Looks yummy right…

@Anonymous Fry it on low flame with very little oil, so your masala will not come out

You dont need coriander powder to fry in kerala style. Just marinate in using turmeric and salt. Then use just chilly and fish masala if needeed. Thats all. Tats how we make it in kera to fry a fish.

Anyone where to get this "Seer Fish" in the US? It's also called "Vanjeeram", aka "Naimeen", "Surmai". aka Scomberomorus guttatus.

I was told that the US has banned this for import (need verification) due to high mercury content.

The MExico gulf fish called "King Fish" is not the seer fish..although its DNA is shared… YEs People..The King Fish you get in the US is not Seer Fish..

Used one perch and two whiting fillets. Didn’t turn out all too good. Think it was the white pepper; should’ve been black.Or was it the vegetable oil, and not coconut??

Also its probably best to use Spanish mackerel, expensive over here. Perch is fresh water fish, not suitable??. The whiting was actually not that bad. Will try again with mackerel another day.

    Thanks for the method statement.
