    Puliyum Meenum Recipe

    This is one of my friend jafrin's recipe and this is what i talked about in this fish masala powder post. I am glad that she told me about this dish, so i get a chance to try it and enjoy it..It is a finger licking delicious fish recipe..It is a masala kind of dish and spicy, tangy at the same time..Loved it..This is pretty simple to make as well.

    About this Recipe

    Fish Thokku is a traditional fish recipe from the village. Thokku is similar to a semi-gravy recipe. It has a spicy and tangy flavour. Tamarind, also known as Imli in India, is a popular spice and condiment. Without tamarind, a South Indian kitchen is considered incomplete! It is used in many popular south Indian dishes, including
    the well-known sambhar, rasam, and some chutneys. Tamarind, one of the most important souring agents in Thai cooking, adds a delicious fruity tartness to soups, salads, stir-fries, and sauces.

    Ingredients for Puliyum Meenum Recipe 


    Sardine :
    Sardines are a broad category of small fish. The Main sardines, which are caught off the coasts of Maine, are actually small, soft-boned herring. Sardine, also known as mathi and chaala, is inexpensive, tasty, and nutritious.


    Shallots :
    Shallots are a little sweeter than regular onions and have a more subtle flavor. They are good used in raw applications where you want an onion flavor without too much punch, such as in salads and vinaigrettes, , or in slow roasted or braised dishes, where their sweetness can enhance a dish without watering it down.

    Tamarind Pulp  :
    Tamarind pulp is a thick tamarind extract. To make tamarind pulp at home, soak the tamarind pods in warm water for about 15-20 minutes, or until soft.

    Ingredients

    • Sardine / Chala Meen - 12 to 15
    • Shallots / Sambar Onion - 12 to 15 peeled
    • Tomato - 2 small chopped
    • Fish Masala Powder - 2 to 3 tblspn RECIPE HERE
    • Tamarind Pulp - 1 tblspn
    • Curry leaves a handful
    • Salt to taste
    • Coconut Oil - 3 to 4 tblspn
    • Fenugreek Seeds / Vendayam / Methi - ¼ tsp

    Instructions

    • Take onion, tomato, fish masala, salt, tamarind in a blender and puree till smooth.
    • Add this to fish and mix well.
    • Transfer this mix to a earthernware pot and sprinkle curry leaves over it.
    • Cover with a lid and put it on flame. Cook on low flame for 10 to 15 mins.
    • Now heat coconut oil and crackle some fenugreek and curry leaves. Pour this over the fish and mix well.
    • Serve.

    Puliyum Meenum Step by Step

     
    Take all your ingredients

     

    Take shallots in a mixer

     

    add in tomatoes

     

    add little tamarind

     

    fish curry masala, RECIPE HERE

     

    add in some salt

     

    puree till smooth

     

    Take your cleaned sardine fish in a bowl

     

    pour the masala in

     

    mix well

     

    Take an earthernware pot

     

    pour the fish in

     

    sprinkle curry leaves all over it

     

    cover it with a lid

     

    pop it on heat and let it simmer for 10 to 15 mins

     

    Now the fish is cooked the masala is done

     

    Heat Coconut oil in a pan

     

    add in fenugreek seeds

     

    sprinkle some curry leaves

     

    pour this hot oil over it

     

    Pour it in and mix well
