Carrots form a best first food for babies. Carrots are rich in Beta Carotene and has tons of Vitamins. Since the veggie is sweet, babies love it so much. This is the first vegetable which i gave maha. The second veggie which i introduced her is beets. But she loves carrots more than beets..

You can check out my apple puree too..

If your carrots are too sweet you dont have to add any sweetner. But i found that maha likes to have everything little sweet, so i went for some panakarkandu syrup. You could add a little sugar in that.

Things to remember:

1)Texture of the puree depends upon you, i would recommend you to make the puree smooth.

2)Your baby wont empty the whole bowl all at once, start with few spoons then increase it gradually as days pass by.

3)In my opinion & experience carrots wont cause any constipation in babies.

4) I dont prefer freezing carrot purees. I make it fresh everyday. But if you are busy or find difficult to get time, then freeze it in individual containers and thaw it overnight in fridge.

5)When choosing carrot, get bright coloured firm ones.

6)Carrots are less likely to have any allergenic reactions.

How to introduce solid food to your baby:

How to sterilize baby feeding bowls:

Start by sterilizing the bowls and spoons which you are going to feed your baby. Take the bowl and spoon in a large saucepan, cover it with water and bring them to a boil. Boil it rapidly for 5 mins. Now you can turn the heat off and leave them stay in the hot water till use.

How to make Carrot Puree:

Take a firm and sweet carrot. Wash it well in water. You can start with a small to medium size carrot. Cut them finely and add it to a clean bowl.

Now place this in a steamer or do what i do. I heat a pan with water and place a small separator at the bottom of the pan. Then keep the bowl over the separator(which comes with your pressure cooker) and cover the pan and steam for a good 10 to 12 mins till the carrot is cooked.

While the carrots are cooking, you can make the sweetner. You could add some sugar to your baby. But i prefer adding some panakarkandu. I take some panakarkandu and cover it with some water. Heat it so the karkandu dissolves. Now strain this and transfer it to a clean air tight container. You can store this in fridge and use whenever you need. I make this and keep it for 2 to 3 days in fridge.

When the carrots are done, transfer the carrots to a blender. Add some of the panakarkandu juice and puree them till smooth.

Now pour this into sterilized bowl and feed your baby. You can pour this into feeding bottle and feed your baby. I cut a bigger hole in my feeding bottle nipple and feed my baby, this way it is easy and convenient.
