Salt and Pepper Broccoli Recipe

Few weeks back we went to a restaurant, there i ordered salt and pepper prawns, that was the first time i tasted it and loved the cruchy prawns along with the onion, ginger and garlic. There were no sauces going in that. I loved the fact that the taste of prawns was dominating in the dish and not the sauces.

I thought of imitating the recipe at home. Even though i had some prawns on hand, i was keen on using those. Because i had different plans for that. I want to make a pasta dish using that. So i decided to try the same recipe using broccoli and it turned out so yum. I hope you will give this a try and let me know how it turned out for you..

Preparation Time : 5 mins
Cooking Time : 15 mins
Serves : 4


Broccoli - 3 cups finely chopped
Salt to taste
Water - as needed for cooking
Oil for deep frying

For Batter:
All Purpose Flour / Maida - 3 tblspn
Cornflour / Cornstarch - 6 tblspn
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste
Water - 1/4 cup

For Tossing:
Oil -  1 tsp
Ginger - 1 tblspn finely chopped
Garlic - 1 tblspn finely chopped
Shallots / Sambar Onion - 5 sliced thinly
Green Chilli - 2 sliced thinly
Spring Onion - 2 chopped finely
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste


Bring lots of water to a boil, add salt and drop in broccoli. COok for a min, drain it and let it cool.

Take broccoli in a bowl, add all other ingredient to the broccoli. Mix well. Drop this in hot oil and fry till golden. Drain and set aside.

Heat 1 tsp of oil in a frying pan. Add in ginger, garlic and onions, saute for a min.

Add in green chillies and saute again.

Add in salt and pepper. Add in the fried broccoli and toss.

Finally add spring onion and mix.


Take your broccoli  and cut it into small pieces

Bring lots of water to boil

add some salt

drop in broccoli

boil for just 1 min

drain it off

take the drained cooled broccoli in a bowl

Add in some all purpose flour

Add in cornflour

season with salt and pepper
add in little water

mix well..it will be very sticky

Drop this in hot oil 

fry till golden brown

when it is golden, drain it

crispy broccoli done..

Take your other ingredients

Heat 1 tsp of oil in a pan

add in ginger garlic and sliced shallots

saute for a min or so

Add in some sliced green chillies

now add in some salt and pepper

give a toss

add in the crispy broccoli

toss well

add in some chopped spring onion

toss again

  2. WHile it will taste good, deep frying broccoli takes out all the health benefits and makes it a very unhealthy dish.

  3. Wow aarthi... It was awesome... My hubby loved it.. He s jst asking me how you made it crisp. It's yumm... I dint said him its deep fried.. He told me to try it, Its healthy... broccoli... But I know the truth.. I'm avoiding deep fried bcoz I'm dieting. Now I request you to make some healthy salads to compensate that deep fried section.. My hubby love salads...
