    This porridge taste amazing with some coconut chutney. This porridge is not only easy to make but taste so healthy.

    About Kerala Matta Rice Kanji Recipe

    Summer is here, that means less time in the kitchen and more salads, juices, porridges is on the menu. This kerala kanji recipe is one of my favorite. Easy to make and taste so delicious. 

    I used kerala red rice to make this kanji. It is broken matta ari which is perfect for kanji or porridges.

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup Broken matta rice
    • ¼ cup Yellow Moong dal / Pasi paruppu
    • 5 cups Water
    • ½ cup Coconut
    • Salt to taste
    • Curry leaves a handful
    • 1 tbsp Coconut Oil or Ghee
    • 1 cup Onion or Shallots chopped finely
    • Curry leaves a handful

    Instructions

    • Wash matta rice atleast 2 to 3 times. Drain and set aside.
    • Take moong dal in a pressure cooker and roast for a min.
    • Add in rice and water. Cook for 4 whistle.
    • Add more water if needed.
    • Add coconut and salt and mix well.
    • Heat ghee in a pan. Add in onions and curry leaves and fry till golden.
    • Pour over porridge.
    • Mix well and serve.

    Broken Matta Kanji Recipe Step by Step pictures

    1)This is broken matta rice

    2)Take it in a bowl and wash it really well. At least 2 to 3 times

    4)Take moong dal in a pressure cooker and roast it for 2 to 3 mins

    5)Now it is well roasted

    9)Cover and pressure cook for 4 whistle
