Ingredients

  • Broken matta rice - 1 cup
  • Yellow Moong dal / Pasi paruppu - 1/4 cup
  • Water - 5 cups
  • Coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Curry leaves a handful
  • Coconut Oil or Ghee - 1 tblsp
  • Onion or Shallots - 1 cup chopped finely
  • Curry leaves a handful

Instructions

  • Wash matta rice atleast 2 to 3 times. Drain and set aside.
  • Take moong dal in a pressure cooker and roast for a min.
  • Add in rice and water. Cook for 4 whistle.
  • Add more water if needed.
  • Add coconut and salt and mix well.
  • Heat ghee in a pan. Add in onions and curry leaves and fry till golden.
  • Pour over porridge.
  • Mix well and serve.

Pictorial:

1)This is broken matta rice

2)Take it in a bowl and wash it really well. Atleast 2 to 3 times

3)Drain it

4)Take moong dal in a pressure cooker and roast it for 2 to 3 mins

5)Now it is well roasted

6)Add in the rice

7)Add water

8)Add curry leaves

9)Cover and pressure cook for 4 whistle

10)Now it is done

11)I added this to a large pot, along with some water to adjust the texture

12)Add coconut

13)Add salt and mix well

14)heat ghee or coconut oil in a pan

15)Add in chopped onions and curry leaves

16)Fry till golden

17)Pour it into the kanji

18)Mix well

19)Serve
