    This is one of my favourite dish of all the time..I love it so much...Kanji / porridges takes place a important part in our lunch menu..I have already shared few of our kanji recipes..You can check out my all time favourite paal kanji & payaru thoran, ulundu kanji and coriander thogayal, wheat ulundu kanji...Recently i have started making this millets kanji and varagu kanji.

    This is my mom's special recipe. She make this kanji along with the green gram patties which pairs beautifully well with this..It is our families traditional recipe..Hope you will love it too.

    Ingredients for Pachai Payaru Kanji Recipe (Green Gram Porridge Recipe)

    For Porridge:
    • Rice - 1 cup
    • Green Gram / Pacha payaru - ½ cup
    • Water - 6 cup
    • Ghee - 1 tsp
    • Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 1 tbsp
    • Milk - 1 liter or as needed
    For Green Gram Patties:
    • Green Gram / Pacha Payaru - 1 cup
    • Coconut - ¼ cup
    • Garlic - 2 cloves
    • Salt to taste
    • Oil for pan frying

    How to make Pachai Payaru Kanji Recipe (Green Gram Porridge Recipe)

    1. Wash and take rice and green gram in a pressure cooker. Add in water and cover it. Pressure cook it for 4 whistle, simmer for 10 mins. Turn off the heat and let the steam go all by itself. Open the cooker and add in milk. Mix well. Heat a tsp of ghee in a small pan and add in cumin seeds and fry till golden, pour this into the porridge and mix well. Porridge done..
    2. Now for the green gram pattice..Take green gram and roast it slightly. Now soak it in hot water for 10 mins. 
    3. Take the drained green gram, coconut, garlic and salt in a mixer and make it into a fine puree.
    4. Heat a tawa, take small portion out of this and flatten it over the tawa. Cook on both sides drizzle with little oil. Once it is cooked. Remove it and serve with porridge.

    Ingredients
      

    • For Porridge:
    • 1 cup Rice
    • ½ cup Green Gram / Pacha payaru
    • 6 cup Water
    • 1 tsp Ghee
    • 1 tbsp Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam

    Amma had this roasted split green gram, you can use
    whole green gram as well

    you need some rice

    take both of them in a bowl

    wash them well
    Pin
    add them to pressure cooker

    While that is cooking, lets make the green gram patties

    Again i used roasted split green gram, you can use whole green gram, if you want you can roast whole green gram too

    take coconut, salt, garlic in a blender

    add the soaked green gram dal

    make it into a puree

    heat a tawa

    Place the patties on hot tawa

    once the bottom is cooked, flip over and cook

    now the rice must be done
