    Iyengar Style Appala Kuzhambu Recipe - Papad Kuzhambu with step wise pictures.

    Appala Kuzhambu or papad kuzhambu which taste so delicious with some plain rice. Iyengar style appala kuzhambu recipe which needs no veggies.

    When you have no veggies lying in the fride, this kuzhambu comes handy. This is similar to puli kuzhambu but it is made with papad. Taste so delicious and it is pretty simple to make.

    Ingredients
      

    • Papad - 3 broken into pieces
    • Gingelly Oil - 3 tblsp
    • Mustard Seeds - ½ tsp
    • Chana Dal - 1 tsp
    • Urad dal - 1 tsp
    • Dry Red Chilli - 2
    • Asaofetida / Hing / Kaya Podi a pinch
    • Curry leaves a sprig
    • Tamarind - 1 small lime size
    • Water as needed
    • Coriander Powder - 2 tblsp
    • Chilli Powder - 2 tsp
    • Turmeric Powder -1 tsp
    • Cumin Powder - 1 tsp
    • Salt to taste
    • Jaggery to taste

    Instructions
     

    • Heat oil in a pan, add in all seasoning ingredients and fry till golden.
    • Add in papad and fry it up.
    • Add tamarind water, spice powders and salt. Mix well.
    • Simmer for 10 mins till it gets thick.
    • Add in jaggery and mix well.
    • Let it stand for 30 mins.
    • Serve.

    1)Heat oil in a pan, i used gingelly oil.

    2)Add in mustard seeds

    3)Add in chana dal

    4)Add in urad dal

    5)Fry till golden

    6)Add in dry red chillies

    7)Add in asafoetida

    8)Add in curry leaves

    9)Break some papad.

    10)Add it in

    11)Fry till it is puffed

    12)Add in tamarind water

    13)Mix well

    14)Add in chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and cumin powder. You can use sambar powder for this too

    15)Add in salt.

    16)Bring it to a boil.

    17)Simmer for 10 mins

    18)Add a piece of jaggery

    19)Mix well

    20)Serve
