About Raw Banana Poriyal Recipe ( Vazhakkai Poriyal Recipe)

Plantains/raw bananas are members of the banana family, but they are firmer and cannot be eaten raw. They must be cooked and are used when they are green or underripe. They are a staple food in tropical regions around the world and are prepared in a variety of ways such as steamed, fried, and so on. It is known as Potatoes of the Caribbean because they taste similar to potatoes.

Bananas are cooked as a starchy fruit with a relatively neutral flavour and soft texture. Cooking bananas can be eaten raw, but they are more commonly fried, boiled, or processed into flour or dough.

Poriyal is a Tamil term for any fried or sautéed vegetable dish. Palya is a Kannada word, vepudu is a Telugu word, and mezhukupuratti is a Malayalam word. It is typically prepared by shallow frying shredded or diced vegetables with spices. Poṟiyal serves as a side dish to a three-course meal of rice with sambhar, rasam and yogurt

    Ingredients for Vazhakkai Poriyal Recipe

    • Raw Banana - 2 peeled and cubed
    • Salt to taste
    • Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi - 1 tsp
    • Oil - 3 tblspn
    • Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
    • Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu - 1 tsp
    • Curry leaves - 1 sprig
    • Chilli Powder - 1 tsp

    Raw Banana :

Raw bananas are particularly high in Vitamin C and B6. Vitamin C is a mineral that is required for healthy skin and hair. Vitamin C boosts the immune system and contains antioxidants that protect the body from free radical damage.

    Turmeric Powder :

The turmeric root is quite bitter, but has an almost citrusy taste, compared to the powder. Turmeric also has something of a sweet taste, and it is quite earthy. When you use the powder, you're unlikely to notice the texture unless you use a substantial amount, but it is somewhat gritty

    Mustard Seeds :

They are used as a seasoning rather than a base flavour in many Indian dishes, and they really perk up a lentil or rice dish when fried in a little oil with curry leaves . As a result, mustard seeds are excellent for adding flavour without adding fat to your diet.
