    About Purple Cabbage Thoran Recipe

Purple cabbage, also known as red cabbage, is a plant in the Brassica genus. This category contains nutrient-dense vegetables like broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and kale. It tastes like green cabbage. The purple variety, on the other hand, is higher in beneficial plant compounds linked to health benefits such as stronger bones and a healthier heart. Purple cabbage may also reduce inflammation and protect against certain cancers. Furthermore, it is an extremely versatile vegetable that can be eaten raw, cooked, fermented, or added to a variety of dishes.

Purple cabbage is a nutrient-dense vegetable with numerous health benefits. Reduced inflammation, a healthier heart, stronger bones, improved gut function, and possibly a lower risk of certain cancers are among the benefits.

Thoran, also known as upperi in Northern Kerala, is a type of dry vegetable dish with coconut that originated in the Indian state of Kerala. This popular dish is typically served with rice and curry and is also included in the traditional Keralite sadhya.

This one i made it a little differently and use purple cabbage, it looked really beautiful plus it is healthy as well.

    Ingredients for Purple Cabbage Thoran

    • Coconut Oil - 1 tblspn
    • Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
    • Urad Dal / Ulundu Paruppu - 1 tsp
    • Curry leaves - 1 sprig
    • Purple Cabbage - 4 cups chopped finely
    • Salt to taste
    For Grinding:
    • Fresh Coconut -1 cup grated
    • Dry Red Chillies - 2 to 3
    • Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 1 tsp
    • Shallots - 2 to 3
    • Garlic - 3 cloves

    Fresh Coconut :

Fresh coconut meat tastes tropical, nutty, and slightly sweet. It has a  strong flavour, particularly when dried. When coconut is roasted, it takes on a woodier flavour with hints of vanilla. Fruit, water, and milk are all popular and highly valued for their fresh, sweet, and refreshing qualities.

    Dry Red Chilli :

Dry red chilli is a condiment that enhances the flavour and colour of food. It contains medicinal and homoeopathic properties. We provide red chillies that are uniform in shape and size. It is mostly used to season foods. The chillies have a strong flavour.

    Shallots :

Shallots are a little sweeter than regular onions and have a more subtle flavor. They are good used in raw applications where you want an oniony flavor without too much punch, such as in salads and vinaigrettes, , or in slow roasted or braised dishes, where their sweetness can enhance a dish without watering it down.
