Thinai Upma Recipe – Foxtail Millet Upma Recipe

upma is a easy go to breakfast idea in many home. It is quick to make and taste delicious as well. Why not try this foxtail millet upma instead of regular ones. These are delicious and is so healthy.

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 30 mins
Serves: 2 to 3

Ingredients:

Thinai / Foxtail Millet – 1/2 cup
Oil – 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds / Kaduku – 1/2 tsp
Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu – 1/2 tsp
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam – 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
Onion – 1 medium size chopped finely
Green Chilli – 1 chopped finely
Carrot – 1 chopped finely
Coconut – 1/4 cup grated
Water – 2 cups
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves a handful chopped finely

Method:

Heat oil in a pan, Add in mustard, urad dal and cumin seeds, add curry leaves as well and let it splatter.

Add in onions, chillies and saute for a min.

Add in carrots and cook for couple of mins.

Add in thinai and stir well. Add water, salt and bring it to a boil. Cover and simmer for 15 mins till it is cooked.

Add coconut and coriander leaves and mix well.

Serve.

add curry leaves if you have

toss well
add thinai
stir well
add water
add salt
bring it to a boil
cover and simmer
now it is cooked
toss well
add coconut 
add in coriander leaves
mix well

      1 to 2 whistle would be good. for 1 cup thinai use 2 cup of water.
