    Idli Upma with Step by Step Pictures. Leftover idli turned into this simple upma which can be enjoyed for breakfast or as light snack.

    Idli Upma 

    Idli upma will be a quick fix breakfast idea if you have leftover idlies from dinner. This can be made under 10 mins from start to finish and makes a tasty breakfast too.

    Ingredients for Idli Upma

    • Left Over Idli - 6
    • Oil - 2 tsp
    • Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
    • Urad dal - 1 tsp
    • Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi - a pinch
    • Onion - 1 medium size chopped very finely
    • Green Chillies - 2 chopped finely
    • Curry leaves a sprig
    • Turmeric Powder - ½ tsp
    • Salt to taste
    • Coriander leaves as needed chopped

    How to Idli Upma

    1. Use your hands to crumble idli into small bits. Set aside.
    2. Heat oil in a pan, add in mustard seeds, urad dal and asafoetida. Let them crackle.
    3. Now add in onions, green chillies and curry leaves. Saute for couple of mins.
    4. Add salt and turmeric and mix well.
    5. Add in crumbled idli and mix well.
    6. Sprinkle over coriander leaves and mix well.
    7. Serve.

    Take idlies

     

    crumble them

     

    chop onions and green chillies

     

    heat oil in a pan

     

    add mustard and urad dal

     

    add asafoetida

     

    let them sizzle

     

    add onions and green chilles

     

    saute them up

     

    add salt

     

    add turmeric powder

     

    mix well

     

    add crumbled idli

     

    toss well

     

    add coriander leaves

     

    mix well
