Dal, such a versatile ingredient..It can be turned into amazing dishes by the ingredients which you add into them. This time i made a simple seasoning for it and turned it into a very elegant masoor dal. This time i used brown lentil and it worket great too..

Cooking Time : 30 to 35 mins
Serves : 4
Brown Masoor Dal – 1 cup
Water – 3 cups
Salt to taste
Sugar – 1 tsp
Oil or Ghee – 2 tblspn
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam – 1 tsp
Ginger Paste – 1 tsp
Green Chilli – 2 chopped finely
Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi – 1/2 tsp
Garam Masala Powder – 1 tsp
Method:
Wash dal well. Take it in a pressure cooker, Cover with water. Pressure cook for 2 whistle, simmer for 15 mins. Turn off the heat and let the steam escape all by itself. Open the cooker and mash it little.
Heat oil or ghee in a pan, add in cumin and let it sizzle.
Now add in chilli, turmeric and garam masala powder. Saute for 10 sec.
Pour this into the dal and mix well.
Add in salt and sugar. Mix well. Add in coriander leaves and mix well.
Serve.
Wash brown masoor dal or any lentil really well |
Take it in a pressure cooker |
Cover with water and cook |
Lentils are done |
Take all your seasoning ingredients |
Heat oil in a pan |
crackle some cumin |
add in chillies |
and some ginger garlic paste |
saute for a min |
Add in chilli, turmeric, garam masala powder and some salt |
mix well |
Pour this into the dal |
add little sugar |
mix well |
add in coriander leaves |
mix well |
Serve |
