Whole Masoor Dal Recipe / Brown Lentil Curry Recipe / Sabut Masoor Dal Recipe

Dal, such a versatile ingredient..It can be turned into amazing dishes by the ingredients which you add into them. This time i made a simple seasoning for it and turned it into a very elegant masoor dal. This time i used brown lentil and it worket great too..

This recipe is also called as Dal Tadka / Tadka dal, they are nothing but just cooked dal seasoned with some herbs and spices. Normally dals are pretty bland, but when they get  exotic touch of this tadka / tempering or seasoning, they taste fantastic. Specially this recipe is so easy to make and it is simple and very tasty.
There are so many variation of this dal tadka will share all them one by one. Hope you will give this a try and let me know how it turns out for you..
Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 30 to 35 mins
Serves : 4

Ingredients:

Brown Masoor Dal – 1 cup
Water – 3 cups
 Salt to taste
Sugar – 1 tsp
Oil or Ghee – 2 tblspn
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam – 1 tsp
Ginger Paste – 1 tsp
Green Chilli – 2 chopped finely
Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi – 1/2 tsp
Garam Masala Powder – 1 tsp

Coriander Leaves a handful finely chopped

Method:

Wash dal well. Take it in a pressure cooker, Cover with water. Pressure cook for 2 whistle, simmer for 15 mins. Turn off the heat and let the steam escape all by itself. Open the cooker and mash it little.

Heat oil or ghee in a pan, add in cumin and let it sizzle.

Now add in chilli, turmeric and garam masala powder. Saute for 10 sec.

Pour this into the dal and mix well.

Add in salt and sugar. Mix well. Add in coriander leaves and mix well.

Serve.

Pictorial:

Wash brown masoor dal or any lentil really well
Take it in a pressure cooker
Cover with water and cook
Lentils are done
Take all your seasoning ingredients
Heat oil in a pan
crackle some cumin
add in chillies
and some ginger garlic paste
saute for a min
Add in chilli, turmeric, garam masala powder and some salt
mix well
Pour this into the dal
add little sugar
mix well
add in coriander leaves
mix well
Serve
