பரோட்டா சால்னா / Parota Salna / Thattukada Chicken Salna / Street Food Stall Chicken Gravy - Sidedish for Parota


Have you ever had hot parota with spicy salna on a cold raining day..My goodness nothing gets better than this..Specially there is a shop near our house, they serve the best salna ever..It is spicy, hot and fully of flavour. Each mouthful taste so yummy and good. If you ever ask me what is the last meal which you want to eat in this earth means, the answer will be "parota & salna". Yes I am so crazy about that. 



There is something in that magical masala which goes in this salna which totally make this..Try to simmer the gravy for a longer time, so that you will get the real flavour of the salna..This salna taste best with roti, dosa and even with idli..I hope you will try this out and let me know what you feel..

Ingrediants:

Onion - 1 sliced
Tomato - 1 chopped
Green Chilli - 1
Chicken - 1/2 kg
Turmeric Powder/Manjal Podi - 1 tsp
Salt to taste

For Masala:
Oil- 1 tblspn
Cinnamon / Pattai - 1 small stick
Whole Pepper - 1 tsp
Fennel Seeds / Sombu / Saunf - 1 tblspn
Onion - 2 sliced
Tomatoes - 4 chopped
Coconut - 1 cup
Chilli powder - 1 tsp
Coriander Powder/ Malli Podi - 1tblspn
Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi - 1 tsp 
Curry leaves - 1 spring

Method:

Start by making the masala. Heat oil in a kadai. Add fennel seeds, cinnamon, pepper and saute for a min.

Add in onions, curry leaves and saute for 3 mins.Add in tomatoes and mix well.Cook for 3 mins.

Add in chilli, turmeric and coriander powder and mix well.Add in coconut and mix well. Fry this till they turn golden.

 Take this in a blender and allow to cool down. Grind it to a smooth paste. Set this aside.

Now take onion, tomatoes, green chilli and chicken in a kadai. Add salt and turmeric powder.

Pour in enough water to cover the chicken . Bring it to boil and cook it for 15-20 mins untill the chicken is cooked.

Now pour in the masala and mix well. Bring this to a boil.

Cover the pan and let it simmer for 15-20 mins till oil separates from this.

Serve hot with parota.

remove them to a blender

and puree them
add onion, tomato, green chilli and chicken in a kadai

cover with water

add some turmeric

and some salt

cover and cook

till done

add the puree

and mix well..Cook..

till oil separates

Serve with parota
taste heavenly

  14. Hey...this is my first time at your blog :D I'm a Malayali so this was the first time I've ever heard of a salna, but my husband was born and brought up in Chennai and spoke so much of how his college days were incomplete without a parota/salna combo that I just HAD to try it out!

    Just tried this out today...it turned out so good the first time around that my husband found himself eating more than half of it xD I love the creamy richness of the curry -- that's probably what makes it such a hit with parotha. I'm going to serve this tonight for dinner with some dosa...the man of the house is already salivating!!

  17. I tried it today and it came extremely good and tasty.. Always parota,salna had been my favorite. But I hadn't thought we can do the same salna that we get in the hotels.. Now I longer miss my parota salna.. Thank you arthi for the wonderful recipe..

    I have tried with chicken ,egg and mealmaker ..
    lovely ....a gravy without ginger garlic paste tastes this much good and nice ...thanz . I have done is more than 4 times within a month .thank you again. Best wishes for trying more receipes..
    I live in America . I have tried wheat buttermilk biscuit out side in train once .couldn't fine that in restaurants if so they don't have in wheat but they have in white....but still searching for that receipe..
