I used chicken breast which I found out perfect, but you can use thighs too. In that case, the cooking time may vary. Meanwhile check my dragon prawns.

The sauce is just super simple. It is just a combination of sugar, ketchup, honey and water. These ingredients create the most iconic taste.

The combination of plain flour and cornstarch along with baking powder helps create crispy exterior in chicken. Make sure to fry the chicken until it turns golden brown. Thats when the chicken get super crispy.

The sauce and the fried chicken should be combined just before serving to keep the crispy texture. Make sure to sprinkle some sesame seeds on the honey chicken before serving.

    Ingredients

    • Chicken Breast : Chop chicken breast evenly into cubes, if you take large pieces it will extend your cooking time. you can also use chicken breast of thighs.
    • All Purpose Flour : It gives softness to the batter and we have to use less amount of plain flour comparatively to cornstarch. The reason to add plain flour is to get golden colour and to activate baking powder it won't activate with only cornstarch.
    • Cornstarch: Cornstarch helps create crispy texture in the chicken.
    • Baking Powder : Baking powder acts with all purpose flour to the make batter puffy and crispiness to the chicken.
    • For Sauce : a combination of ketchup, honey, sugar and water is used to make the sauce.

    Step by Step Pictures

Make the sauce for honey chicken

1)The sauce for honey chicken is super simple. Take tomato ketchup, sugar in a bowl.

2)Drizzle in honey over this. This dish has no spice added, the taste is tangy and sweet.

3)Pour enough water to dilute the sauce.

4)Mix well and set aside. You can taste and adjust the sugar and honey. The taste should be balanced with the sweetness of honey and tangyness of ketchup.

    Cut Chicken Breast

5)Take boneless skinless chicken breast and cut into bite size cubes.

6)The size of the chicken should be bite size. Set this aside till needed.

    Make Batter for chicken

7)Take plain flour, cornstarch in a mixing bowl.

    8)Add in salt.

9)Add in baking powder. Mix this all together so the salt and baking powder is evenly combined.

10)Pour enough water to make a batter.

11)The batter shouldn't be too thick or too thin. So adjust the consistency accordingly.

    Frying Chicken

12)Take chicken breast pieces and dip it into the batter.

13)The batter should coat the chicken really well.

14)Drop the chicken one by one into hot oil. Don't over crowd the pan.

15)Let the chicken fry until it gets golden brown and crispy. It will take around 6 to 7 minutes.

16)Strain the chicken onto some paper towel.

    Mixing sauce and chicken

17)Pour the sauce on a frying pan and let it come to a boil.

18)Let the sauce boil like this. It will get glossy and shiny and slightly thick. Just one minute is enough.

19)Now take it off the heat and add in the fried chicken.

20)Toss to coat the chicken with the sauce.

21)Transfer to a serving plate, sprinkle with sesame seeds and enjoy.

Hi aarthi, is it okay to heat honey? It makes it becoming toxic to human consumption

This was delicious! I am usually unsure about recipes that call for an ingredient "as needed", but I just added water until the batter looked good. Almost a cup! The chicken was nice and crispy, and the sauce was thick and so easy to throw together. Great recipe!

More sauce please??? It seems to me that the honey part is what makes the chicken so addictive. 2 tbsps??? Really???? I quadrupled the sauce recipe to coat my chicken thoroughly. Came out delicious!
