    Momos soup recipe 

    Whenever I make momos, I prefer to enjoy it with a bowl of hot soup. This is a comforting and  delicious hearty soup made using veggies. This soup taste amazing with a plate of hot momos. This soup is so delicious.

    About Momos soup 

    Traditionally momos soup made with pork bones to make the broth. It has added herbs and aromatics. There are many version of momos soup made including jhol momos or momos with tomato broth. 

    Momos soup is also known as clear soup which is usually served with momos. It is also called as soup for momos which is a hearty light soup made with vegetables. You can make it vegetarian or non vegetarian as you prefer. 

    The soup is made with aromatics like onions, garlic and ginger sautéed with vegetables and broth. This is usually served with steamed momos on the side or inside the soup.

    Momos Soup Ingredients 

    Oil - I used toasted sesame oil for this recipe, it provides a unique nutty aroma to the soup. But you can use any oil of choice. 

    Ginger & Garlic - chopped ginger and garlic is added for flavouring of soup. 

    Onions - chopped onions or spring onions is used in the soup. You can use white part of spring onions for the soup base. You can use green part of spring onions for garnishing in the end. 

    Vegetables - use vegetables like cabbage, carrot, capsicum in the soup. You can use mushrooms, beans or any vegetable of choice. 

    Soy sauce - it is mainly used as flavouring for the soup. 

    Broth - I used vegetable stock to make the base of the soup. 

    Ways to serve this soup

    Enjoy on its own - sometimes I have only this soup for my main course, I add lots of vegetables, cooked chicken to make it a substantial meal on its own. 

    Make it filling - I add cooked noodles or pasta in the soup to make it more filling. 

    Momos in soup - I add steamed momos in the soup to make it hearty and filling. 

    How to Make Momos Soup (Stepwise Pictures)

    1)Heat sesame oil in a pot. Let it heat up. You can use toasted sesame oil or regular oil for making the soup.

    2)Add in peeled and chopped ginger, garlic and chopped onions. Instead of onions you can use white part of spring onions. Saute the onions with garlic and ginger for 2 minutes until fragrant.

    3)Add in chopped vegetables, you can add any vegetables as you like. I used carrots, bell pepper, cabbage and green chillies.

    4)Saute the vegetables for few minutes until raw smell leaves from this vegetables.

    5)Season with salt, pepper, sugar.

    6)Add in vinegar and soy sauce and mix well.

    7)Pour in stock of choice. I am using vegetable stock, you can use chicken stock. Bring the soup to a full boil, cook for 4 to 5 minutes.

    8)Mix 1 tbsp cornstarch with some cold water till it is smooth. Pour this into the soup and cook till it gets thick, let it come to a full boil again.

    9)Now the soup is ready.

    10)Add in spring onion greens fir garnishing.

    11)Serve hot.

    Expert Tips

    • Any vegetables like mushrooms, beans, corn or cooked shredded chicken can be used in the soup.
    • Chicken broth can be used instead of veg broth to form the soup. 
    • You can season the soup with chilli sauce or vinegar too. 

    Serving and Storage 

    Leftover soup can be stored in fridge and reheated when serving. Enjoy this momos soup with hot plate of steamed momos.

    Equipment

    • Cooking pot

    Ingredients

    • 1 tbsp Toasted Sesame oil or use any oil
    • 1 tbsp Ginger peeled and chopped finely
    • 1 tbsp Garlic peeled and chopped finely
    • 1 medium Onion peeled and chopped finely

    Vegetable to Use

    • ½ cup Cabbage chopped finely
    • ¼ cup Capsicum chopped finely
    • ¼ cup Carrot chopped finely
    • 1 no Green Chillies chopped finely
    • 1 litre Vegetable Stock
    • 1 tsp Salt or to taste
    • 1 tsp Sugar
    • 1 tsp Black Pepper Powder
    • 1 tsp Soy Sauce or to taste
    • 1 tsp Vinegar or to taste

    For Cornstarch Slurry

    • 1 tbsp Cornstarch
    • 4 tbsp Water

    For Garnishing & Serving

    • 2 no Spring Onion greens chopped finely
    • Steamed momos as needed

    Instructions

    • Heat oil in a pot. Add in ginger, garlic, onions and saute for a minute.
    • Add in vegetables, green chillies and saute for 2 to 3 minutes. Season with salt, sugar, pepper, soy sauce and vinegar. Mix well
    • Pour in vegetable stock and bring it to a full boil. Cook for 5 minutes until vegetables is cooked.
    • Mix cornstarch with little water to form slurry and pour it into the soup. Cook until soup thickens and bring the soup to full boil. Finally add in spring onion greens and mix well.
    • Serve with momos.
