    Banana Stem Thoran Recipe - Valathandu Thoran with step wise pictures.

    Banana Stem Thoran Recipe

    Ingredients

    • Banana Stem / Valathandu - 3 cups chopped finely
    • Coconut Oil - 3 tblsp
    • Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
    • Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu - 1 tsp
    • Curry leaves - 1 sprig
    • Salt to taste

    FOR GRINDING:

    • Coconut - 1 cup
    • Dry Red Chillies - 4
    • Garlic - 4
    • Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 1 tsp

    Instructions

    • Grind coconut mix till coarse.
    • Heat oil in a kadai. Add in mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves and let them sizzzle.
    • Add in banana stem and salt. Stir fry for 10 mins till it is cooked.
    • Add in coconut mixture and stir for few more mins.
    • Serve.

    Pictorial:

    1)Take curd and water in a large bowl.

    2)Slice banana stem

    3)Remove the fiber

    4)Use your fingers

    5)Discard this

    6)Stack banana stem

    7)Cut it into strips

    8)Chop finely

    9)Soak it in curd mix. This will prevent the banana stem getting black

    10)Take coconut in a blender

    11)Add dry red chillies and cumin seed

    12)Add garlic

    13)Grind to a smooth puree

    14)Heat coconut oil in a kadai.

    15) Add mustard seeds and urad dal

    16)Add in curry leaves

    17)Add chopped onions

    18)Saute for a min

    19)Add banana stem

    20)Add salt.

    21)Mix well

    22)Cook on medium heat for atleast 10 mins

    23)Now it is cooked

    24)taste and adjust salt.

    25)Add in coconut mix

    26)Stir well

    27)Serve
