    About Bisibelabath Recipe

You know that bisibelabath is one of the famous and tasty dish. The cool thing about this is, it is Iyengar recipe and I got this from one of my friend in office. This is her mum’s recipe. One day we had a get together in office, she bought this along with papad and it was totally delicious. At that second itself I wanted to post this in my blog. So last week I called her mum and asked for the recipe and made it at once.

The vegetables used in this recipe is entirely upto you. You could add or remove any vegetables as per your wish. Basically you are making a special sambar and adding rice to that. Please taste the sambar and adjust the tamarind, salt and sugar for your taste. This is best had piping hot right from the stove. You can put this in a bowl and eat it with a spoon, because the consistency of this should be semi solid which makes it a comfort dish.

I had it with brinjal fry and papad. So hope you love it and let me know the results.

    Bisibelabath powder Ingredients

    Cinnamon – 1 small Stick
    Cardamom-5
    Cloves-5
    Coriander Seeds-2 tblspn
    Split Channa Dal-1 tblspn
    Dry Red Chilli-3
    Pepper-1 tsp

    How to Make Bisibelabath Recipe

    Bisibelabath powder

Start by making bisibelabath powder. Take spices 1 in a dry roasting pan and roast for 3-4 mins until well roasted. Remove and set aside to cool. Heat 1 tsp of oil in a kadai and Take spices 2 in that. Roast it till it gets golden brown. Remove it and set aside to cool down. Now take both of this in a blender or coffee grinder and powder it finely. Bisibelabath powder is done.

    Cook the rice

Now wash rice till all starch goes away. Put it pressure cooker and add 4 cups of water and cook it for 3 whistles for about 15-20 mins until cooked. Let the pressure go all by itself. Remove and set aside.

    Cook vegetables & Dal

Take all vegetables and washed toor dal  in a pressure cooker and cover it completely with water . Cook it for 3 whistles for about 15-20 mins until cooked. Let the pressure go all by itself. Remove it and transfer it into a large pan.

    FInishing Bisibelabath Recipe

Bring that to a boil and add in bisibelabath powder, tamarind, sugar, salt and mix well. Let it simmer for 10 mins. If the mixture is too thick add some more water. The consistency should be like a thin sambar.Taste this to check for seasonings and adjust it accordingly. Now add in rice and mix well. Let it simmer for 5-10 mins. Add lots of cilantro on top and mix well.

    Tempering for Bisibelabath

No make seasoning by heating ghee and oil in a small pan. Add cashewnuts and curry leaves and mix well. Pour this over the rice and mix well. The consistency should be like a thick dosa batter. Serve this hot with brinjal fry and papad.

      Hi

It came very good except the smell of cinnamon (took only 5 no's of cinnamon) was too high. I heard from my mother that it will give too much smell if we make powder of it. Anyway cheers and keep posting..

'Split chana dal' looks like 'Pottu kadalai'? or is it regular 'kadalai paruppu'?
