    Brown Basmati Rice Pulao Recipe with step by step pictures. This is made with Brown Basmati Rice and Whole Spices. It is perfect to serve with any spicy curries.

     

    Brown Basmati Rice Pulav

     

    I love making pulao. Normally i use regular basmati rice. But very recently i discovered brown basmati rice and i am kind of excited because of it. Because i couldn't find any difference in taste plus i know it is healthy and rich in fibre. I will be sharing many other brown basmati rice recipe soon.

    Ingredients for Brown Basmati Rice Pulao recipe

    • Brown Basmati Rice - 1 cup
    • Water - 2.5 cups
    • Oil -  1 tblspn
    • Onion - 1 large chopped finely
    • Green Chillies - 3 chopped
    • Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tblspn
    • Carrot - 1 large size chopped
    • Peas - 1 cup  (i used frozen)
    • Salt to taste
    • Chilli Powder - 2 tsp
    • Coriander Powder / Malli Podi - 1 tblspn
    • Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi - 1 tsp
    • Garam Masala Powder - 2 tsp
    • Mint Leaves a handful finely chopped
    • Coriander leaves a handful finely chopped
    Whole Spices:
    • Shahi Jeera / Black Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
    • Fennel Seeds / Saunf / Sombu - 1 tsp
    • Cinnamon / Pattai - 3 cm piece
    • Cardamom / Yelakai - 4
    • Cloves / Krambu - 4
    • Bay Leaf - 1
    • Mace - 1

    How to make Brown Basmati Rice Pulav

    1. Wash and soak rice for 30 mins. Drain and set aside
    2. Now heat oil in a large pot. Add in whole spices and let them sizzle
    3. Add in onions and salt. Saute for 2 to 3 mins.
    4. Add in ginger garlic paste and saute for a min.
    5. Now add in all spice powders. Mix well. 
    6. Add in veggies and toss well. cook for few mins..
    7. Add in water, and drained rice. Add in coriander and mint leaves. Mix well. Bring it to a boil, simmer and cover the pan with a lid. Cook for 15 mins on very low heat.
    8. Open the pan, and fluff it with a fork. Cover again and set aside for 5 mins.
    9. Serve.

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup Brown Basmati Rice
    • 2.5 cups Water
    • 1 tbsp Oil
    • 1 large chopped finely Onion
    • 3 chopped Green Chillies
    • 1 tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste
    • 1 large size chopped Carrot
    • 1 cup i used frozen Peas
    • Salt to taste
    • 2 tsp Chilli Powder
    • 1 tbsp Coriander Powder / Malli Podi
    • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi
    • 2 tspGaram Masala Powder
    • Mint Leaves a handful finely chopped
    • Coriander leaves a handful finely chopped
    • Whole Spices:
    • 1 tsp Shahi Jeera / Black Cumin Seeds
    • 1 tsp - 1 tsp Fennel Seeds / Saunf / Sombu
    • 3 cm piece Cinnamon / Pattai

    Brown Basmati Rice Pulao step by step pictures

     
    Measure 1 cup of brown basmati rice
     
    Take it in a bowl
     
    Wash it well and soak for 30 mins
     
    Take your other ingredients
     
    Heat oil in a sauce pan, add in all the whole spices
     
    let them sizzle
     
    add in onions
     
    cook till golden
     
    add in ginger garlic paste
     
    cook for another min
     
    add in spice powders
     
    toss well
     
    add in carrot and peas
     
    mix well
     
    add in salt
     
    mix well
     
    Add in water
     
    add in drained rice
     
    mint and coriander leaves
     
    Bring it to a boil
     
    Cover and simmer for 15 mins
     
    Now it is done
     
    fluff with a fork
     
    Cover again and set aide for 10 mins
     
    Now serve
