    Cheema Chakka Poriyal

I love cheema chakka or breadfruit, it is one of my favourite veggie. Amma makes a fantastic masala curry using that and so far i haven't shared any recipe using that in my blog. So few days back when i saw this veggie in my super mart i picked one and make two recipes using that. This is the first one and will share amma's recipe next.

    Ingredients for Cheema Chakka Poriyal

    • Cheema Chakka / Bread Fruit - 1 medium size peeled and cubed (around 4 cups)
    • Onion - 1 large sliced thinly
    • Salt to taste
    • Turmeric Powder ./ Manjal Podi - 1 tsp
    • Oil - 2 tbsp
    • Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
    • Urad Dal / Ulundu Paruppu - 1 tsp
    • Curry Leaves - 2 sprigs
    • Chilli Powder - 2 tsp
    • Garam Masala Powder - 1 tsp
    • Water as needed

This is breadfruit season and i am seeing this in abundance. It is very tasty, if you have never tasted it so far and find this in your veggie shop, pick one for sure.

How to Make Cheema Chakka Poriyal

    1. Peel breadfruit and cube them. Take them in a pot along with onions, salt, turmeric powder and 1 cup of water. Cover and cook on a low heat for 15 mins till it is cooked. Now the water would be reduced as well.
    2. Now heat oil in a kadai. Add in mustard, urad dal and curry leaves. Let them sizzle.
    3. Now add in the cooked breadfruit and salt and toss well. Fry this on medium heat till it is well caramelized.
    4. Now add in chilli powder and garam masala powder and mix well.
Cook that for few more mins.
    5. Now serve with rice and rasam.
