Herb Crusted Tofu burger
I made this burger for lunch today and it was so yummy. It has high amount of protein in it and it was a filling meal by itself..The marination for the tofu worked so well ,since the tofu is bland, it absorbed all the acidic marination and came out so flavourful..It you want it to be much healthier, you could add lettuce leaves, onion and tomato slices to it…But I kept it plain and simple..You could even substitute tofu with paneer also. You could also add some chopped coriander/mint/basil to the breadcrumbs..

Ingrediants:
Tofu- I block cut into large squares
Burger buns
Tomato ketchup
Oil for shallow frying
For  Marination:
Soya sauce-2 tblspn
Vinegar-1 tblspn
Red chilli powder-1 tsp
Garam masala powder-1 tsp
Sugar -1 tsp
Salt to taste
For Outer crusting1:
All purpose flour / Maida-1/4 cup
Corn flour-1 tblspn
Water-1/2 cup
For Outer crusting2:
Breadcrumbs-1 cup
Parmasan cheese-2 tblspn
Pepper-1 tsp
Oregano-1 tsp
Paprika/Chilli powder-1 tsp
Salt a pinch
Method:
Mix the ingrediants given in the marination list and place the tofu in this marination.Cover it up and let it marinate for 30 min.
Mix together maida, cornflour and water together till it forms a smooth batter.Set this aside.
Mix the ingrediants given in the outer crusting 2  list and put it in a shallow plate.
Take themarinated tofu carefully and dunk  it in the cornflour batter and dredge it in the breadcrumbs on all sides.
Place this in heated oil and shallow fry it till golden.Remove it and set it on paper towel to drain excess oil.
Toast your burger buns and apply some ketchup over it.if you want you could add some lettuce leaves.Place the fried tofu over this and cover it with the other bun.
Serve hot or wrap it in foil and enjoy this in your picnic.
Pictorial:
Grab your ingrediants
Mix up your marinate ingrediants…salt, sugar, chilli powder, garam masala powder, soya sauce, vinegar along with tofu pieces
Mix pepper,cheese,oregano,paprika with breadcrumbs
Dip the marinated tofu in cornflour batter…and dredge it in breadcrumbs…
fry in oil..So crispy right..
apply some ketchup over toasted buns and put the tofu piece on top and cover with other half of bun..
SERVE
ENJOY..

Hello, YummyTummy. I'm guessing you started with a standard block of tofu, but you didn't describe exactly how you cut it. Was it 4 pieces? I'll only see your answer if you write to [email protected]. Thanks

Tried to comment a few moments ago. Don't know where it went. How many pieces did you cut the block of tofu into? That's a crucial bit of info. I will only see your answer if you write to [email protected]. Thanks.

Tofu burger looks fabulous.. Loved the idea of marinating the tofu and using 2 different crusts for a crispy outer shell. Delicious.

    Hi Aarthi,

Thanks for the recipe! Not sure I'm going to get Parmesan cheese here. Can I substitute this for any other grated cheese or just omit it?

    Thanks,
    Rimzim
