Matcha Latte Recipe with Step by Step Pictures. Matcha is a premium Japanese green tea which has super amazing health benefits. Making them into latte makes it super delicious.

    Matcha Latte Recipe

I am a coffee person, once in a while I enjoy a cup of tea. I have been consuming matcha green tea for quite sometimes. On a daily basis I like to mix it with hot water and enjoy. But ever since I tried it with milk I am in love with it. Matcha has a little Bitter note to it, Adding milk and honey to my matcha has reduced its bitterness and made it more creamy and aromatic. I have been enjoying it this way from that day onwards.

    About Matcha Latte Recipe

Matcha is finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves, traditionally consumed in East Asia. It is special in two aspects of farming and processing: the green tea plants used for matcha are shade-grown for three to four weeks before harvest, and the stems and veins are removed during processing.

During shaded growth, the plant Camellia sinensis produces more theanine and caffeine. The powdered form of matcha is consumed differently from tea leaves or tea bags, as it is suspended in a liquid, typically water or milk.

Matcha is my new discovery. I have seen many recipes use them in baking as well. So i bought a jar of it from amazon. It is quite expensive but the flavour is unbeatable. Specially when it is made into this latte with milk and honey. Not only the flavour matcha has so many health benefits in them.

    Ingredients for Matcha Latte

    Matcha Green Tea

East Asians have traditionally consumed matcha, a finely ground powder made from specially grown and processed green tea leaves. Before harvest, matcha green tea plants are shade-grown for three to four weeks. The stems and veins are then cut out during processing. When grown in shade, Camellia sinensis yields more theanine and caffeine. Because matcha powder is suspended in a liquid, usually water or milk, it is consumed differently than tea leaves or tea bags.

    Milk

Full cream milk is used in this recipe, instead of regular milk you can use oat, soy or almond milk can be used.

    Honey

I prefer using liquid sweetener, you can use agave or maple syrup too.

    How to Make Matcha Latte

    Frothing Matcha

You will be needing a wide shallow cup for mixing matcha with water. Take a shallow cup or bowl, add in matcha. If you see your matcha to be lumpy you can sift it using a small sieve directly into the cup. Add in warm water and use a small whisk or a traditional bamboo matcha whisk to mix it well. This method helps with the froth in the matcha tea and makes it evenly combined.

    Boiling & Frothing Milk

Now heat your milk, don’t let it boil too much. Once you see steam coming from your milk, take it off the heat and add it in a milk frother cup or use an electric milk frother to froth it. Set aside.

    Serving

Now take your serving cup, add in honey or any sweetener of your choice. Pour the whisked matcha tea mix cover the honey and use a chopstick or stirrer to combine it.  Now pour your steamed frothy milk gently over the matcha and mix gently.  Serve immediately.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Drinking matcha on a daily basis produces a noticeable mood boost, optimised all-day energy, and potential benefits such as weight loss, heart health, lower blood pressure, metabolism balance, and even cancer-fighting properties.

Where did Matcha green tea originate?

Green tea dates back to the 8th century in China, and the method of making powdered tea from steam-prepared dried tea leaves became popular in the 12th century. Matcha was discovered and brought to Japan at that time by a Buddhist monk named Myoan Eisai.
