    Radish Thoran Recipe with step by step pictures. This recipe is a traditional Kerala delicacy that is not only nutritious but very delicious and easy to prepare.

    Radish Thoran

    This is one of the delicious way to use radish. I use radish and make sambar, masala, paratha and raita.. This is another way of using that veggie. This taste so yummy, you don't get the raw weird smell of that in this recipe.

    Ingredients for Radish Thoran (Mullangi Thoran)

    • Radish - 1
    • Coconut Oil - 1 tbsp
    • Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
    • Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu - 1 tsp
    • Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - ½ tsp
    • Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
    • Cumin Powder / Jeera Podi - 1 tsp
    • Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi - 1 tsp
    • Salt to taste
    • Fresh Coconut - ½ cup grated

    How to Make Radish Thoran (Mullangi Thoran)

    1. Peel and grate radish. Set aside. Take coconut in a mixer and pulse it few times to get a coarse mix.
    2. Heat oil in a kadai. Add in mustard, cumin and urad dal. Saute till golden.
    3. Add in grated radish and salt. Saute for 8 to 10 mins till the radish is cooked.
    4. Now add in chilli, cumin and turmeric powder. Saute for 2 mins.
    5. Add in coconut and toss well. Saute for 2 to 3 mins.
    6. Serve.

    Ingredients

    • 1 Radish

    Radish Thoran Recipe Step by Step

    Take a radish
    peel em
    grate them
    take all your ingredients
    take coconut in a mixer
    grind it to a coarse mix
    Heat oil in a kadai
    add in mustard, urad dal and cumin seeds
    let it crackle
    add in grated radish
    saute well
    add in salt
    cook till raw smell leaves and the radish is cooked
    add in chilli powder, turmeric powder and
    cumin powder
    saute for a min
    add in grated coconut
    mix well
    cook for few more mins
    serve

      pls call it as poriyal, thoran seems not relate with our tamil food,

      Hello - great recipe - I adapted it slightly, as I had a swede. I thought if radish why not swede and it was delicious - so good, swede like we have never had it before. Especially helpful was the comment "cook till the raw taste leaves" That made it very clear for me. I am english and had desiccated coconut in the cupboard so just used that and missed the urad dal as I didn't have it and have never quite understood the point of it. My partner was absolutely thrilled - we had it with chana dal and naan bread and yogurt and chutney. Prob. a very anglicised meal but we were happy! Thank you. Catherine
