Indian Curry Rice Recipe - Indian Chicken Curry with Brown Rice

Few days back i was watching some cooking videos on youtube and i came across a video in which they made curry rice. Each country has their own version of curry rice..Japanese has a lot more starch added in them which makes their curry more silky. So i decided to make my version of indian curry rice..I made a batch of homemade curry powder and used that in this curry and the curry came together in under 35 mins or so. I will be making the other country curry rice as well, so keep checking..

I served this with brown rice, you can serve this with white rice, roti, idiyappam or appam as well..Hope you will give this a try and let me know how it turns out for you..

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 45 mins
Serves: 2 to 3 


Oil - 3 tblspn
Onions - 1 large chopped finely
Ginger - 1 tblspn finely chopped
Garlic - 1 tblspn finely chopped
Green Chillies -2  slit
Tomato Puree - from 2 large tomatoes
Boneless Chicken - 250 grams cubed
Indian Curry Powder - 2 to 3 tblspn(Recipe here)
Salt to taste
Sugar - 1/2 tsp
Coriander leaves a handful finely chopped
Brown Rice for Serving (Recipe here)
Water - 1/2 cup or as needed


Heat oil in a pan, add in onions, ginger and garlic along with salt and a touch of sugar. Saute this till golden brown.

Add in green chillies and mix well.

Add in curry powder and give it a quick toss.

Now add in tomato puree and cook this till oil separates from this mix.

Now add in water and bring it to a boil.

Once it boils add in chicken and low the heat to a simmer and cook for 20 to 25 mins till chicken is cooked and gravy is thick.

Add in coriander leaves and mix well.

Serve over brown rice with a sprinkling of coriander leaves.

Take all your ingredients

Heat oil in a pan, add in onions

add in ginger and garlic..I ran out of fresh garlic, so i used some dried garlic..I have that always on hand

Now season this with salt and little sugar

Fry till golden

Add in green chillies

Add in curry powder

Toss that well

Add in tomato puree

Mix well

Cook till oil separates from the mix

Pour in water

Mix well

Bring it to a boil

Add in chicken

Mix well

Cover and simmer on low heat till chicken is cooked

Now it is done

Add lots of chopped coriander leaves

Pile up your plate with rice

Take as much curry as you need

Spoon over rice

Sprinkle with some coriander leaves and dig in
