    Gooseberry Rice Recipe / Nellikai Sadam Recipe / Amla Rice Recipe / Usirikai Annam Recipe

    Gooseberry rice is a new type of mixed rice which you dont do often. The taste of this would be similar to lemon rice..But has a lovely taste of the gooseberry. I love variety rices, you can check out my rice recipes right here, i have quite a few of them. So try this and let me know how it turned out for you.

    Preparation Time : 20 mins (includes cooking rice)
    Cooking Time: 10 mins
    Serves : 2


    Ingredients:

    Rice (Cooked ) - 2 cups
    Gooseberry / Nellikai - 3 large grated
    Coconut - 1 tblspn grated
    Salt to taste
    Sugar - ½ tsp


    For Seasoning:
    Oil - 2 tblspn
    Mustard Seeds / Kaduku -  1 tsp
    Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu -  1 tsp
    Cumin seeds / Jeerakam - 1 tsp
    Peanuts - 2 tblspn
    Channa Dal / Kadalai Paruppu -  1 tsp
    Green Chilli - 2 chopped finely
    Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi - ¼ tsp
    Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi - 1 tsp


    Method:

    Heat oil in a kadai. Add in all the seasoning ingredients and let it sizzle for 2 mins on a low heat.

    Now add in gooseberry and coconut. Toss well in the seasoning.

    Add in salt and sugar as well..Mix well.

    Now add in the cooked rice and mix well. Fry the rice in the masala till it heats through.

    Serve hot.
