Eggless Oats Brownies using Whole Wheat Flour

Oats, such a healthy grain which makes everything made from that healthy too. You could probably add that to anything you make starting from the regular breakfast dosa or idli to the goodies like cakes and bars. I have a wide range of oats recipes in my blog. you should take a look at it.

Making a cake using oats was always in my mind for quite a long time. Its because i want to bake something so healthy. You can check out my healthy dates cake which i baked long time ago. So i came up with this recipe which calls for wheat flour and no butter. And as a added bonus it is eggless, so everyone can dig in.

The cool thing about this recipe is, the chocolate chips which you add on top of the brownies sink a little inside the brownies creating a beautiful presentation. And not to mention, it makes the brownies taste heavenly. You should try this out and let me know what you think.

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Baking Time : 45 mins
Makes one 15 x 15 cm square pan

Ingredients:

Wheat Flour / Atta – 1 cup / 120 grams
Sugar – 3/4 cup / 150 grams
Oats – 1/2 cup powdered
Cocoa – 5 tblspn
Baking soda –  1 tsp
Salt – 1/4 tsp
Oil – 3 tblspn
Vanilla Essence –  1 tsp
Yogurt – 1 cup / 240 ml / 8 fluid ounces
Chocolate chips – 1/2 cup / 80 grams

Method:

Preheat the oven to 170 Degree C / 340 Degree F. Grease a 15×15 cm square pan with oil and dust it with flour, tap off the excess flour. Now the pan is ready.

Take wheat flour, sugar, oats, cocoa, baking soda and salt in a bowl and mix well.

Make a small well in the center. Pour yogurt, vanilla, oil and mix well.

Pour this batter into the pan, sprinkle the top with some chocolate chips.

Bake the brownies in the oven for 45 mins till a skewer inserted comes out clean.

Allow this to cool down for 15 mins. Invert the brownies to a plate and cut into squares.

Serve with a glass of milk.

Pictorial:

Yum! Love the use of oat combined with wheat flour. Yogurt did a fine job in keeping these brownies moist.

    Hi Aarthi,

I tried this just now and it came out very well. The only problem I found was the top of my cake (crust) was little bit hard. Any suggestions on how can I avoid that? Thanks

@SeemaBrownies usually meant to have a little crust on top of it. If it is too hard and the cake itself is hard, then you must have baked it longer

@SeemaBrownies usually meant to have a little crust on top of it. If it is too hard and the cake itself is hard, then you must have baked it longer. You must have placed the oven tray on the top rack close to the heating element. Always place the rack in the middle.

Hi Aarthi, thanks for this beautiful recipe. I have been consulting a dietitian for weight loss and oats play quite a significant part in it. For days I had been looking for a cake with oats and wheat flour.

I just have one query though.
When you mention powdered oats , you mean crushed oats or the way they simply are found. Please let me know soon. Thanks

I tried this recipe exactly…wid correct measurement spoons and cups..the brownie turned to be a bit salty. Usually i add a pinch of salt while baking as majority of recipes mention so, but here i followed 1/4tsp.
My husband tasted and named it monaco brownie 🙁
