This one is great for kids or toddlers as well. My 2.5 year old loves it. You can add different dals in it, like toor dal, masoor dal as well. There is a recipe for masala khichdi which is my all time favourite. Will share it soon.
Cooking Time : 30 mins
Serves: 3 to 4
Rice – 1/2 cup
Yellow Moong Dal / Pasi Paruppu – 1/2 cup
Onion – 1 small chopped finely
Tomato – 1 medium size chopped finely
Green Chillies – 1 chopped finely
Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tblspn
Oil – 1 tblspn
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam – 1 tsp
Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi – 1/4 tsp
Turmeric Powder – 1 tsp
Ghee for serving
Coriander leaves a handful finely chopped
Water – 3 to 4 cups
Wash and soak rice and moong dal for 15 mins.
Heat oil in a cooker, add in cumin seeds, asafoetida and let them sizzle.
Add in onions and green chillies and saute till golden.
Add in ginger garlic paste and mix well.
Add in turmeric and mix well.
Add in water, tomatoes, salt and mix well. Add in soaked drained rice and dal. Mix well.
Bring it to a boil. Now cover and pressure cook for 4 to 5 whistle. Simmer the flame and cook for 5 mins.
Now mix well.
Spoon it into a bowl, Drizzle top with ghee and coriander leaves and serve.
