South Indian Paruppu Kuzhambu
When we think of India,mainly south india the thing which gets into your mind is dal. India is known for their different types of dal. Dals are one of the staple dish all over india. Dals are prepared different ways in different region. In south india they use lot of curry leaves and tamarind for sour taste,In the north they use lots of onions and tomato for sour taste….This dish is very easy and simple dish to make.

Ingredients for South Indian Paruppu Kuzhambu
- Toor Dal - ½ cup
- Tomato-1 chopped
- Garlic - 4 cloves peeled
- Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi - 1 tsp
- Water - 1.5 cup
- Salt-to taste
- Coriander leaves- a handful finely chopped
For Grinding:
- Coconut - ½ cup
- Green chilli -2
- Cumin seeds / Jeerakam -1 tsp
For Seasoning:
- Ghee or Oil -1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds - 1tsp
- Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya podi - ¼ tsp
- Curry Leaves - 1 sprig
How to Make South Indian Paruppu Kuzhambu
- Take the grinding ingredients in a mixer and grind it into a smooth paste.
- Wash toor dal well. Take dal, water, tomato, garlic, turmeric powder in a pressure cooker.
- Cover and pressure cook for 3 whistle. Turn off the flame and let the steam go all by itself.
- Now open the cooker and mash the dal roughly.
- Add in the ground paste and mix well.Let it come to a boil again.Season with salt.
- Now in a small pan,Heat ghee and add in the mustard seeds, asafoetida and curry leaves. Now pour this tadka into the dal and mix well.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with rice.
