Tofu and Peas Curry Recipe - Tofu Matar Recipe

Tofu is a great source of protein to include in your meal when you are dieting. This curry is a great sidedish to have wit roti, tofu makes a great substitute for paneer which is not advisable to consume when you are dieting..

Normally tofu is bland, and it just absorbs all the flavours which you add into it. And pressure cooking the curry makes the tofu really soft and the tofu picks up the flavour better..

Preparation Time : 5 mins
Cooking Time : 25 to 30 mins
Serves: 4


Tofu / Soya Paneer - 200 grams cubed
Peas - 2 cups (i used fresh)
Tomatoes - 4 large pureed
Oil - 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 1 tsp
Cinnamon / Pattai - 1 inch piece
Bay Leaf - 1
Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tblspn
Chilli Powder - 2 tsp
Coriander Powder / Malli Podi - 1 tblspn
Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi - 1 tsp
Cumin Powder - 1 tsp
Garam Masala Powder - 2 tsp
Salt to taste
Sugar - to taste
Coriander Leaves a handful finely chopped


Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add in the whole spices and let them sizzle.

Now add in tomatoes and cook till raw smell leaves away.

Now add in the ginger garlic paste and saute for a min.

Add in the spice powders except garam masala powder and mix well.

Add in salt and sugar to taste and cook till oil separates from the mix.

Add in water as needed along with tofu and peas. Cover and pressure cook for 1 whistle. Simmer the flame and cook for 5 mins. Turn off the heat and let the steam go all by itself. 

Open the cooker, add in garam masala powder and simmer for a min.

Add in coriander leaves and mix well.

Serve with roti.

I found some fresh peas in my market, 
so picked a bunch of them

look at those, they are like green pearls

remove them to a bowl and give a good wash and drain them

take roughly chopped tomatoes in a blender

puree till smooth

Now take your ingredients
In a pressure cooker, heat little oil, add in the whole spices

once the spices have sizzled, add in pureed tomatoes

cook till the raw smell leaves from it

add in ginger garlic paste

add in the spice powders

now it is all done

the colour has deepened and oil has separated from it

add in peas


mix well
season with salt

add little sugar

add in cubed can use paneer too

mix well

now cover it and pressure cook for 1 whistle

after 1 whistle, simmer the flame and cook for 5 mins, then
 turn off the heat and let the steam escape all by itself. 

now add in garam masala powder

coriander leaves

add a good amount of the coriander, it gives nice flavour

    Thank you for the recipe. It looks yummy. However would like to know if the dish will turn out to be sour as onions are not added. I have a packet of Tofu lying in my fridge. Your reply will greatly help me in going ahead and preparing your recipe
