Moong Dal Ka Halwa Recipe - Moong Dal Halwa Recipe

Moong dal halwa is one of my favourite. It is delicious and pretty easy to make. The only hard task is keep on stiring, you can never step away from the pan when you are toasting moong dal, else it may gets stuck or burn or form lumps.

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 1 hour
Serves: 5 to 6


Yellow Split Moong Dal - 1 cup
Ghee - 1/2 cup
Sugar - 1 cup
Milk - 2 cups
Cardamom Powder - 1 tsp
Saffron a pinch


Wash and soak moong dal for 4 hours. Drain it and take it in a blender. puree till smooth.

Take milk, sugar in a sauce pan and bring it to a boil.Turn off the heat and add in saffron and cardamom.

Now heat ghee in a nonstick pan, add the moong dal puree in and mix well.

Cook this and keep stiring and pressing till it gets cooked.

Keep cooking till the mixture gets dry and toasty. It will take around 30 mins.

Now add in milk mixture and mix well. Cook this till it thickens and gets halwa like texture.


Wash dal well

cover with water and soak for 4 hours

now it is soaked

take it in a blender

puree till smooth

now it is done

take sugar in a sauce pan

add milk

bring it to a boil

take it off the heat and add in cardamom powder

add saffron
heat ghee in a pan

add moong dal mix in and stir well

keep mixing and keep stirring

keep cooking

keep pressing so no lumps is formed

mix well

when you keep on stiring the dal will get toasty

like this

now it is done

add in milk mix

mix well

bring it to a boil and cook

keep cooking

cook till it thickens

like a halwa
