Apple Crumble made from Scratch

Apple crumble is one of the recipe which was in my mind for months. I wanted to bake it so badly each time i buy apples. Couple days of back, i got my hands on some lovely juicy apples. So decided to give it a try and the result was amazing.

The topping which i made is purely based on my taste, i made it less sweet because i dont like recipes which are too sweet, that you feel like you will get diabetics as soon as you finish the bowl. You can use some demerara sugar in this, it will give a nice crunchy topping. I also throwed some walnuts in my crumble to give a crunch.

It is really important to use good juicy, crisp apples for this recipe. Because you want the apples to stand out for this. You dont want some mushy and disintegrated apples all over the dish. And it is really important to served this warm apple crumble with cold vanilla icecream. I asked hubby dear to get me some icecream when i started to make this. He too got me the best quality icecream. Each spoonful is like heaven for me..YUM YUM..

Preparation Time: 15 mins
Cooking Time : 40 to 45 mins
Serves : 5 to 6

Ingredients:

Apples – 3 large crisp apples
Cornflour / Cornstarch – 2 tblspn
Sugar – 4 tblspn or to taste

For Crumble:
All Purpose Flour / Maida – 100 gms
Salt – 1/4 tsp
Baking Powder – 1/2 tsp
Unsalted Butter –  75 gms + 4 tblspn for Greasing and Topping
Oats – 1/3 cup ( I used instant oats)
Sugar – 4 tblspnNuts – 1/4 cup ( Any Nuts as you wish, I used Walnuts)

Method:

Preheat the oven to 180 Degree C / 360 Degree F. Grease a 15 cm square pan with butter.

Start by making the crumbles. Take flour, baking powder, salt in a bowl and mix well.

Add in cold cubed butter and rub it with your fingers till it gets coarse crumbs.

Now add in oats, sugar and nuts and mix well. Set this crumble in the fridge till use.

Now peel decore and slice your apples thinly.

Put the sliced apples in the greased pan.

Add cornstarch, sugar over the apples and mix well with your hands.

Sprinkle the prepared crumble over the apples and dot few tsp of butter all over the crumble topping.

Bake this for 40-45 mins or untill the topping is golden and bubbly.

Remove it from the oven, let this cool down for 15-20 mins.

Serves this with vanilla icecream.
