    What is a Crumble?

Crumble is a simplistic fruit recipe that transforms any fruit into a wonderful dessert when covered with a crisp, buttery crumb topping. Crumbles gained popularity in the United Kingdom during World War II .when the topping served as a cost-effective
alternative to pies due to rationing of pastry ingredients.

There are some different stories behind the origin of the name. It is also known as crumble or crisp.

    About Strawberry Crumble

Crumble is also known as crisp. One of the most popular crumble recipe is made with apples, berries or any seasonal fruits. This strawberry crumble is one of my favorite dessert.

The juicy berries when cooked with the butter crisp topping taste so delicious with vanilla ice cream. Crumble is very versatile, you can make it with any fruits of choice. Any seasonal fruits are perfect in a crumble.

The cool thing about this is, you can make it to your guest who drop in without any notice. You can make this into individual portions to serve them.

    Strawberry Crumble Ingredients

Strawberry - These are a vibrant red fruit that is juicy and tasty. Strawberries when baked turn into juicy jam like texture which taste amazing with the buttery crumble.

Cornstarch - It provides a natural thickness this fruit crumble. You could try replacing the corn starch with tapioca or arrow root starch.

Unsalted Butter - The butter mixes in with the crumble topping to help giving it that lovely crunchy topping. For a dairy free option you could swap the butter with margarine.

Sugar - it is used in both crumble and filling to provide the sweetness.

Baking powder - I use a pinch of baking powder which lightens the crumble and makes it crispy.

Strawberry Crumble Preparation (3 Easy Steps)

Makes Crumble Topping - Take all crumble ingredients in a bowl, add in butter and rub it with your fingers or fork to resemble it coarse crumbs. Put this in fridge till needed.

Make Filling - Take strawberries, sugar and cornflour in a bowl and mix well. Take half of the crumble in a baking pan and press evenly so it forms a base. Top with the fruit mix.

Baking - Now top with remaining crumbles and pop them in oven. Bake for 40 to 45 mins till the top is bubbly and golden. Remove it and set aside to cool down. Scoop and serve with vanilla ice cream.
